1 TEDtalk Cancer Project

2 Cancer Video Project Form a group of 1-3 students. Choose one of the Tedtalks videos provided (or find a new video on cancer). Get your video choice approved by Ms. Luancing Create a PowerPoint about the basics of the talk that your group will present to the class (5 mins long) Choose a clip from the video that your group will show the class (5 mins long)

3 Presentation Sign Ups 1. First, get your video and group approved by Ms. Luancing First come, first served for video choice. Cannot do the same video as another group. 2. Then, sign up on the sheet next to the SMARTboard for the day you would like to present. (Again, first come, first served). ** Keep in mind that you will have other assignments due next week as well.

4 Presentation Outline Must Include: Main idea of the video Who was involved? What was discovered? Where? Why is this important to us? What type of cancer is involved in the study? How is this new/innovative? How does it improve upon our current understanding or treatment of cancer? Personal feelings/reflection

Was the video clip shown to the class Reflection / Participati on (5 points) Did the reflection show rumination and thought on the subject matter? If applicable, did all members of the group participate? Did the students show respect during other students’ presentations?

6 Slides to Include (Guideline): Start with a quote, interesting fact or poll to involve audience and peak interest (slide 1) Overview/main idea (slide 2) Slides 3-4 Include the most interesting and important information You could include a quote Reflection/personal feelings (slide 5) Note: Be sure to include some pictures and make it visually appealing. Also, be conscious of your background color and font choice

7 Group Participation If working in a group, each member must complete the group member survey and hand it in along with your presentation. All members of the group must participate in the creation of the presentation. All members of the group must have equal time to speak during the presentation. One person should not be doing all the work.

8 Handed in Day of Presentation: 1. Handout of your Presentation 2. Grading Rubric 3. Member Survey (if in group) 4. Any handouts etc. from your presentation

9 When Presenting: Speak up! Everyone in the room needs to be able to hear you. Speak to the class, not to the floor or to the board. Do not simply read off of the PowerPoint. Extrapolate on your presentation. Anyone who is disrespectful or talking during another student’s presentation will lose points on his/her project at the teacher’s discretion.

10 Recommended: Practice your presentation beforehand. Time yourself- it should be around 10 minutes. The more engaging and interactive the presentation is, the better. Be creative!
