The field of aesthetics is a very large one. But the full development didn't begin to emerge until the widening and growing of leisure activities in the 18th century. It's the branch of philosophy that's concerned with the nature of art and the criteria of artistic judgment. Throughout the Victorian period, there were important literary movements, including the Pre- Raphaelite, the Aesthetic and Decadence Movement, and New Woman Fiction. The first two movements are worthy of note for, they clarify, step by step, how aestheticism was brought about. The major problem in aesthetics concerns the nature of the beautiful; and there are two approaches to the problem of beauty, one the objective, and the other, the subjective. Among those interested in aesthetics and also known as the greatest aesthetic teachers are Oscar Wilde, John Ruskin, William Morris, and Walter Pater. The precise nature of Oscar Wilde's own visual taste is one that has been very little addressed and his opinions on most aesthetic matters are well- known. His first official expedition into literary fiction was in the year of 1887 and on. He published a series of stories designed as light entertainment. Most are grouped under the rubric of fairy tales. His works, especially short fiction, are oral in origin and are written as performances which explore cracks in Wilde's own complex fate. It is from the margins of society, from the perspective of the poor, the colonized, or the dishonest, that these stories must be read.
