The Comprehensive Needs Assessment includes 5 Components… School Data Profile School Data Analysis School Process Profile School Process Analysis Summary Report 12

Conduct an analysis of the correlation between data sets 13

14 Look at intersecting data - for example, the relationship between achievement and demographic data. Achievement Data Demographic Data

15 What are the conclusions regarding strengths and challenges of student learning needs? What content area goals will be addressed in the School Improvement Plan? What are the gaps between current student achievement and where the school would like it to be? What are the leading causes for the gaps in performance?

16 Example: The relationship between demographic and process data Are there specific students that spend more days or fewer days in suspension than others? (Process Data)

17 Example: The relationship between demographic and perception data Is there a gender difference in students’ perceptions of the learning environment? (Perception Data)

21 Summary Sections are included within the School Process Profile

22 The Michigan Comprehensive Needs Assessment (CNA)* includes these components… 1.School Data Profile 2.School Data Analysis 3.School Process Profile 4.School Process Analysis 5.Summary Report *Comprehensive needs assessments may vary. However, in Michigan, the School Process Profile must include one of four designated options. One Common Voice - One Plan Stage 2 Creating a Common Vocabulary for School Improvement

23 What are the challenges identified in your comprehensive needs assessment (including the School Data Analysis and the School Process Analysis)? What are the root causes for the gaps? Greatest needs Greatest challenges Additional information or data

24 Root Cause Questions Would the problem have occurred if the cause had not been present? Will the problem reoccur if the cause is corrected? What data are indicating there is a problem or problems? What other indicators are there that might be related, using another piece of data?

29 What questions do you still have about analyzing the data from the SDP and SPP? How might our team go about beginning to analyze our data?

35 Schools need to have 3-5 goals*

36 Schools are required to write a goal for any area for which they do not meet AYP and/or are not performing at the state average on state assessments. Maintenance goals are appropriate for areas in which the school is performing at a satisfactory level and are focused on maintaining or improving student performance in that content area. (MDE)

37 Based on your building level data, are there district goals that need to be incorporated into the building’s and/or district’s school improvement plan/strategic plan? Are the building goals and the district goals aligned and supportive of each other?

38 State broadly the area of focus and that all students will become successful learners. Example: All students will be proficient in reading.

40 Objective Statements: Student Focused Linked to the goal statement Identify the knowledge, skills, outcomes, and results that are measureable, observable, and quantifiable State who will be able to do what by when measured by what

41 Specific Measurable Attainable Results-based Time-bound

42 Student Goal Statement example: All students will be proficient in reading. Measurable Objective Statement example: All students will increase skills in the area of informational reading: the percentage of non- disabled students proficient on the MEAP will increase from 56% (2007-08) to 65% and the percentage of students with disabilities proficient on the MEAP will increase from 35% (2007-08) to 52% by the end of the 2009-2010 school year.

47 Best Practices

48 Research Best Practices In what context was the practice effective? How is this context same/different from our context? How will the differences render the practice less/not effective? How would the practice need to be modified for our use? Will the modified practice still be effective? With what probability? Why do we believe this?
