“Is an international movement driven by individuals like you. All of us have many different backgrounds and political beliefs but feel that, since we can no longer trust our elected officials to represent anyone other than their wealthiest donors, we need real people to create real change from the bottom up. Organized in over 100 cities in the United States, #occupy aims to fight back against the system that has allowed the rich to get richer and the poor to get poorer. We no longer want the wealthiest to hold all the power, to write the rules governing an unbalanced and inequitable global economy, and thus foreclosing on our future.”-occupytogether.org

This article was written by Jayme Poisson and Josh Tappe and published by the Toronto star and shows a series of quotes from people participating in the “occupy Toronto’s media and communications committee”. This article was created to show the views several Torontonians have on the occupy movement and how they feel about essentially being ignored by those in power, “The world is being more and more divided into the minority of haves and the vast majority of have-nots.”-Brian Young. I chose this article because I feel it not only relates to the occupy movement, but also to us, these are people within our own city protesting against unjust behavior from those in power which affects all of us. Brian Young Denis Kramarovsky

This photo was taken by David Shankbone during a large rally full of people who support the occupy movement. This photo was taken to show the large amount of support the occupy movement has gotten and how people truly believe their government is not acting in their best needs but in the needs of the wealthiest donor. I chose this photo because I feel it really shows that people want change, there are people of all age, gender and race protesting holding signs and wearing shirts with statements written on me showing how they do not support this rich get richer and poor get poorer mindset. Denis Kramarovsky

This is a poster that was created by Ronnie Goodman from San Francisco, California. The purpose of this poster is to shed light on all of the problems we are currently experiencing, like homeless deaths, minimal power to the 99%, very few low income housing and much more, it shows the inequality between the low- medium class people and the upper class people. I chose this poster, because I feel it is incredibly powerful, it shows thousands of people protesting against the economic issues we currently face and how we are forced to endure it while very few changes are even being made by the government. Denis Kramarovsky

 This photo was taken by David Shankbone in Zuccotti park in new York city. This picture is of thousands of people coming together to protest the damaging influence of corporations on politics and economical and social inequality. This picture connects with the occupy movement because this is one of the protests that inspired the occupy movement protests to start. I picked this photo because it shows how much people care and that we will come together to fight for what's right. Matthew Castelli

 This is a graph made by J. David Hulchanski on October 25 2011. The purpose of this graph is to show the change in income over the years. It shows the percentage of people that make that income. The graph is trying to show how much our economy has changed over the years and what it will look like in the future. This picture connects with the occupy movement because people are fighting for the people with the low income to get richer and the people with the rich income to get poorer so everybody is making equal income and everybody is treated equally. I choose this photo because it shows how much our world has changed economically and it sheds light on the fact that rich people have all the power and are very greedy. Matthew Castelli

 This photo was posted on October 3 2011. it was taken during the protests and it’s a picture of a women getting arrested. The purpose of this photo is to show that “its about time” that people are protesting and many people finally getting arrested for these protests. This picture connects to the occupy movement because this women is apart of the movement and is one of the protesters. I choose this photo because it shows how much passion people have when fighting for what we believe in. It shows that the women wants to be let go and keep protesting. Matthew Castelli

This is a poster created by Bizhan Khodabandeh. It was made in Richmond, a city in Virginia, in the United States. I believe the purpose of this poster was to protest against the people trying to take over. It is used to let people know that 99% of the population does not want to go through with plans that make the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. The connection it has to The Occupy Movement is that the handcuffs are in the shape of “99%” which represents the amount of people that disagree with the decisions made. The reason I chose this poster is because I believe it is very powerful. As you can see the chains from the handcuffs are breaking at the end and I feel that means that people can break through and be free. Also in bold letter it says “nothing to lose” and I feel this is a very powerful saying because many people don’t take risk because they have too much to lose if things don’t go their way. But with this quote it gives people some reassurance that if they don’t win they wont be in trouble. Michelle Weaver Poster

Jayme Poisson who is a writer for the Toronto Star wrote this article. It was published on October 16 2011. The article is about the protest that happened in St. James Park. At least 2000 people marched threw the city to protest. Many people sleept in tents and stayed over night to protest. The purpose of this article is to show awarness of how much people actually care. People are so commited to this they are willing to spend their nights on the street just so they can help get awareness across the nation. The reason for chossing this article to represent The Occupy Movement is because it had a lot of information on the protest and many different people’s stories were included in the article Michelle Weaver

Kat Keene Hogue and the Guardian US interactive team created this video on April 13 th 2012. This video sums up the protests and the events that happened in the 7 months of protest. The purpose of this video is to show people a glimpse of what the protesters had to go threw and it shows the important events that happened in the 7 months of protest. The reason I chose this video to represent The Occupy Movement is because by watching this video I felt like I was actually at the protest and saw how much people were doing to support their opinions on the subject and I believe it helped my understanding of the topic. 12 The Occupy movement is one that most of can relate to. There’s always been a time when we feel as though the system is working against us, whether its losing your home due to bank foreclosure, corrupt politicians, police brutality and much more. The Occupy movement aims to end this, it aims to reach equality and social and economic justice amongst people, representatives, and organizations. This movement is not one that will end anytime soon and will continue until change is made.
