Nursing Informatics What is Nursing Informatics? A specialty that integrates nursing science, computer science, and information science in identifying, collecting, processing, and managing data and information to support nursing practice, administration, education, and research, and to expand nursing knowledge. What is Nursing Information System? A computer system that collects, stores, processes, retrieves, displays, and communicates in timely fashion as information is needed.

Why do we need Nursing Informatics? Considering that nurses spend up to 50% of their time documenting patient information, the computerization of these tasks is essential. Advantages of Nursing Informatics towards the provision of best possible care, given limited resources. Efficiency Speed Cost Containment Versatility Accuracy

Education Increased reliance on information systems has created new challenges and opportunities for nursing education. The ANA role in education. How to get education in Nursing Informatics.

Designing a distance based Nursing Informatics program. What should be including in the Curricular? Understanding different tools that were used in the past and what do we want to change. Designing pre-requites. Giving information about what to expect after one graduates. Surveying the market and professional trends.

Designing a distance based Nursing Informatics program Cont. Research Age, Work Location and Title. Computer Proficiency. Importance of Curriculum Topics. Factor Influencing Enrollment. Issues with computer Education. Tracking likelihood of Enrollment.

Resolve factoring issues Enrollment issues and Benefits of Online training. By making enrollment easier, Web based admission and class enrollment. Pointing Benefits of online education system i.e. Time flexibility, Self paced training. Secure access. Email and chat integration. Help Desk System.

Summary Based on the results of this study, creating distance-based graduate programs in informatics appears to be a worthwhile endeavor, which can benefit students, provide career enhancement opportunities, and further promote the nursing profession.
