12  Mascot › The mascot is the Bear.  Colors › The colors are Teal, White, and Black  History UCSF was founded in 1864. Toland Medical College came in contact with the University of California. The two colleges provided a base of health sciences in San Francisco. The base expanded to a nursing college, a department of dentistry, and a hospital. In 1964, the institution was named University of California, San Francisco Medical Center. It became the ninth campus in the UC system. Later it was renamed as University of California, San Francisco.
