Assessing the 5 Themes of Geography

Objectives Students will apply their new knowledge of the 5 Themes of Geography in an effort to create a “Resort Location” that will attract tourists from around the world. Students will demonstrate their knowledge of the 5 Themes of Geography by creating a “Resort Location” that accurately reflects each of the 5 Themes, while also marketing the location in a visually appealing way. Students will present the final product of their “Resort Location Advertisement” as part of the performance assessment criteria.

Criteria Following the rubric you were provided with, you will demonstrate your understanding of the “5 Themes of Geography” by creating a: Poster Brochure PowerPoint Video Song

In Order to Earn Maximum Point Totals: Reference the outlines that were created in class and for: Absolute Location: List the latitude (distance from equator) and longitude (distance from Prim Meridian) of your Resort. Relative Location: Explain the location of your Resort in comparison to other places (using Cardinal Directions) Example: Lazy Lovejoy Island is located at approximately 5 degrees North / 80 degrees East. This Resort Location is just South of Sri Lanka and west of the Indonesia.

- Place: Describe the land and water (physical features), also describe the lifestyle of the people (what do they do/activities). Maybe even include some products that are found at this location. -Region: Does this location share characteristics with other areas (Spanish speaking, mountains, etc.) -Movement: How did the original settlers of this location arrive there? Where did they come from? Why to they come there? What ideas did they bring with them? -Human Environmental Interaction: How do people adapt to or change the land at this location? Are there any good or bad examples of interaction (do these activities help the environment or hurt the environment).
