2 Social Studies Vocabulary The following vocabulary words are essential to understanding social studies. Copy the chart below and fill this in as we discuss the words. You will be quizzed on these next Thursday. Term Definition.

3 CULTURE Definition: -a people ’ s way of life including their tools, food, language, religious beliefs and government.

4 HISTORY Definition: a branch of knowledge that records and explains past events

5 GOVERNMENT Definition: A group of people who have the power to make and enforce laws for a country or area

6 POLITICS Definition: The activities involved in getting and using power in public life, and being able to influence decisions to affect a country or a society

7 ECONOMY Definition: The relationship between production, trade, and the supply of money or wealth

8 SOCIETY an organized group of persons associated together for religious, benevolent, cultural, scientific, political, pa triotic, or other purposes.

9 GEOGRAPHY Definition: the study of all the physical features of the Earth ’ s surface, including climate, plant, animal and human life.

23 IMPACT and SIGNIFICANCE Definition: The effect or importance of events or people on others is the impact or significance.
