3 What is Nutrition? Every boy and girl has nutrition. It is the process of HEALTHY EATING AND DRINKING with HEALTHY LIVING. Why do we need NUTRITION? SO THAT OUR BODIES ARE HEALTHY!! What are some things that our body needs? 1. Good Food 2. Water 3. Exercise 4. Cleanliness

4 HEALTHY LIVING- Need to Know Good Foods. What do we need from good foods? o Proteins, carbs., fats, vitamins, minerals… Proteins- Help body grow (Ex.: Milk, eggs, meats) Carbohydrates- Gives Energy (Cereal, Potatos, Bread) Fats- Keeps skin healthy (Ex: ice cream, mayo., butter) Vitamins- Helps muscles grow (Ex: fish, cereal, meat) Minerals-builds teeth and bones (Meat, eggs, fish) VEGETABLES have vitamins, minerals, fiber,

5 The Five Food Groups 1.) The Vegetable Group- “The Greens” and Peppers 2.) The Fruit Group- Apples, Oranges, Bananas, 3.) The Meats and Beans Group- Fish, Poultry, Nuts 4.) 6 The Organs of Nutrition- “Nice to Know” The Lungs- Lungs need air for us to breathe. The Heart- Must pump blood for us to have energy The Liver- Our liver regulates bad waste everyday. The Stomach- Our stomach must digest the food we eat in order to supply our body with energy. The Intestinal System- breaks down energy, vitamins, minerals, proteins, fats, and enriches our body. Kidneys- Controls Blood pressure and Urinary tract.

7 Good/Bad Nutrition- Say “No!” Good Things For: 1. Stomach- Food Groups 2. Intestinals-Vegetables 3. The Lungs- Exercise 4. Liver- Water 5. Kidneys-Water 6. Heart- Exercise Bad Things For: 1. Stomach- Junk Foods - Pizza, Sugars, etc. 2. Intestinals- Drugs 3. The Lungs- Smoking 4. Liver- Alcohol 5. Kidneys- Sodas 6. Heart- Drugs & “COUCH POTATOES”!!!
