2 Janusz Korczak, his real name was Henryk Goldszmit. He was born in Warsaw on 22 July.. He wrote under various pseudonyms: Pan Doktor (Mr doctor), Stary Doktor (Old doctor). He came from a Jewish family. It was a caring, tolerant, helpful und hardworking person looking after others.

3 Who was Janusz Korczak? Trained as a physician, educator, writer, journalist and social activist. He wanted children to be treated as equal people, as fully respected citizens. In 1926 he helped children found their newspaper Mały Przegląd and encouaraged them to edit it on their own. He also was the pioneer in taking care of children causing trouble.

4 Together with Stefania Wilczynska he founded and ran an orphanage - for Jewish children in Warsaw. They treated their pupils seriously but at the same time they gave them the chance to have real childhood. Orphanages founded by Korczak

5 He was a doctor and very often he treated his poor patients without taking money. He did it free. He never refused to help someone in need.

6 He died tragically, togehter with his children that he took care of at the concentration camp in Treblinka in 1942. He died with the children even if he did not have to. He did not leave them while they were dying. He was their father until the last seconds of their life.
