4 Web Developer’s Meeting July 29, 2004 CityShare- Introduction CityShare launched on July 20! The backend is now an N-tiered platform. The information architecture and interface have been made to be more intuitive. Content has been made useful and integrates with NYC.gov sites. Employee Search and Events Calendar are the inaugural applications. Phase II-- Disaster recovery implementation. Completion September/October.

5 Web Developer’s Meeting July 29, 2004 CityShare- Infrastructure New platform is a UNIX environment featuring: –Vignette Application Portal (VAP) –Vignette Application Builder (VAB) –Interwoven (IW) Content Management System. Agencies will be able to deploy subportals/intranets using VAP and IW. Supports Java applications. Future–Future– –Web services for connecting to other types of applications. –Seamless integration of global and agency content managed through IW templates and user authentication. Following Phase II Disaster Recovery implementation.

Can’t access content on NYC.gov? Contact agency MIS to obtain NYC.gov access for “intranet only” users. FutureFuture –CityShare will be accessible through the Internet via the new DoITT VPN application. –Personalization –Content mingling of global and agency sub portal content will be dependent on registry and personalization.

More advanced searches can be conducted in the Citywide Employee Contact Directory at http://citydirectory.nycnet. Advanced Search in the Employee Search module links to the Citywide Employee Contact Directory. Employee Search & LDAP

9 Web Developer’s Meeting July 29, 2004 Employee Search & LDAP Advanced filtering options. Email address lookups can now reference ldap.nycnet. LDAP participating agencies need to keep data clean and sensitive accounts hidden. Batch upload agencies should automate directory exports and upload this on a weekly basis. Long-term strategy is to have an enterprise wide identity management solution. As part of this strategy, we encourage every agency to put every employee’s PMS ID and active code into the agency directory. HR can provide this data.

You may also send content changes and requests directly to webmail@doitt.nyc.gov. For immediate technical assistance please open up a ticket with the DoITT Help Desk—718.403.8888. Content will be published according to the same standards as are used for NYC.gov. Overall site and application updates are made on Wednesdays.

14 Web Developer’s Meeting July 29, 2004 Intranet- Next Steps Sub portals using the portal software and IW. The DR environment must be in place first. Identity management strategy and agency participation in LDAP will help determine how far we can go for supporting applications on the intranet platform. Develop strategy for supporting agency application development in the CityShare environment. Once personalization has been implemented, more communities of interests will be created with the capability of posting to libraries and forums. Workflow applications for needs such as wireless phone procurement or timesheets for agencies who are not using City Time right now. Upgrading event calendar.

Designers and information architecture specialists are available for consultation with, or production for, agencies looking to establish a new presence on NYC.gov or redesign an existing Web site. As a result, a small working group is being established to review existing policies. The revision of the PPM should be complete by mid to late Fall ’04. 52 Web Developer’s Meeting July 29, 2004 Events Calendar The NYC.gov Events Calendar is being enhanced as an enterprise wide application to allow for the development of agency-specific calendars. Post-Labor Day availability. All agencies using TeamSite templates will be able to create and update their Events Calendar. Events can be queried by category, date range, location or keyword search. Events can also be deployed to the public (NYC.gov) or internal (CityShare) channels. The NYC.gov Events Calendar is currently being used by 311 Call Takers to provide detailed information on events in New York City. Future- For location information, the event will be linked to a graphical map.
