3.  When creating lesson plans what is your focus during design? GPS, student outcomes, studio technique learned, or projects?  Which ladder rung are you on?  How can curriculum support you and help your students achieve mastery of standards?

4.  What part of your lessons are the students interested in?  How can you create lessons that engage their interests and have them master standards?

5.  Standards are statements that define what students should know and be able to do upon completion of specific levels of instruction as well as how they will respond to their environment.  Standards serve as a guide for excellence and are differentiated from minimum competencies or outcomes because they describe the challenging goals for expanding and improving education.

6. 1. In the fall you will be required to use the new Fulton County Art Curriculum which will encompass the GPS standards. 2. Your current lesson plans can be converted into Standards based lesson plans with some tweaking. 3. Our work today will help to create a bank of usable lessons in order to assist everyone in the transition.

7. 1. Yes. The current “STEP” will be replaced by the “CLASS KEYS” (Classroom Analysis of State Standards) observation tool. Highlights will consist of potentially 5 observations including two full class observations and 3 15 minute observations. This is still being decided. 2. Teachers will be observed on how they are implementing the standards into the classroom lesson. 3. They will look for your essential question, the standard it is tied to, and for evidence that the standard is being taught that day. Your teaching strategies will also be tied into your reflection (CIP) that you do at the beginning of the year.

8. Class Keys is the new teacher observation tool that will be fully implemented statewide in the year 2011 – 2012. The details of its implementation are still being coordinated at the county level. 9. 1. Feb 2010. Early Release Day lesson conversion comparative analysis. 2. March 2010. Curriculum Revisions based on the GPS. 3. Early April 2010. Curriculum draft is presented for teacher feed back. 4. May 2010. Draft goes before the board for first read through. 5. June 2010. Final Draft goes before the board for approval. 6. June 2010. Curriculum will be linked to website for teachers to download and use to convert lessons. 7. August 2010. Curriculum will be implemented in classrooms across FCS. 8. November 2010. Feedback from teachers will be given after teaching new curriculum. 9. December 2010. Final Board Approval. Curriculum is no longer draft.

10. 1. This year I simulated a more standards based environment for the Art department. 2. You had more walk through’s from administrators and more frequent visits from the Art Support Teachers. 3. The Art Support teachers started looking at your lesson plans and checking that you were teaching the current QCC objectives. They started asking you about essential questions, word walls and assessments. Why? 4. This was all in an effort to see how hard the transition to GPS and the new assessment model will be for our subject matter. There was a lot of push back…

11. 1. To compare and contrast the current curriculum with the GPS. 2. To give you a chance to really work out problems and issues that arise when converting lessons with a group of peers. Common Planning! 3. To answer questions and start looking towards the future. 4. To create a bank of lesson plans ready for the beginning of the year.

12. 1. Use the comparative analysis form in your group to analyze similarities and differences. 2. Recreate your lesson using the GPS standards for your grade level. 3. Email the lesson plan to your art support teacher before you leave today.
