2 History  Founded in 1995 by Jeff Bezos  It started as an online bookstore but soon diversified.

3 Purpose  E-Commerce  Amazon seeks to be Earth’s most customer-centric company for four primary customer sets: consumers, sellers, enterprises, and content creators.

4 Pros  Easy access to search bar  Pictures of items being sold  Sign-in conveniently located at top and bottom of page.  Interactive  Few colors displayed  Add to cart remembers what you put in there after browser is closed.

5 Cons  Clutter  Clicking on R ecommended F or Y ou has no big button to go back to site (only click on logo); unexperienced user will not know this  No way to sign-in as guest, user has to create an account  Too many irrelevant photos loading on the page; slow connection will cause lagging and discourage user from being on the website  Site will not appeal to novice user

6 Visibility of system status  At the top right corner the user can login to their account and view the items in their cart  When hovering the mouse over account, the drop down appears with information pertaining to the account holder  Hovering the mouse over cart shows brief overview of item in cart  Recommended for you

7 Match between system and the real world  The fonts used for items that are clicked on after search indicate its price and availability in different colors, allowing for it to stand out to the user ◦ Blue text indicates similar products or other related products that may be of interest ◦ Red text shows the price ◦ Green indicates its expected delivery date  Department breakdown on search bar

8 User control and freedom  Whenever the user has searched the product, the bar on the left hand side can help them narrow it down as much as possible to ensure they purchase exactly what they want.  Edit shopping cart option and decide where item will be sent  There is no options to continue shopping after adding items into cart  Only says edit your cart or proceed to checkout

11 Consistency and standards  The search tab is always available at the top of the page so that navigation is possible no matter what page the user is on  Your Account and Cart is also always available at the top of the page  The consistency of coloring in text for availability, clickable links, and pricing regardless of what item is

12 Error prevention  Auto-complete feature on the search bar helps the user with spelling and remembering or completing what the item is  Sign in option appears again before checking out so that the correct user is logged in for completing the purchase  Confirms address, credit card and shipping options  Confirmation page summarizes purchase details before placing the order

13 Recognition rather than recall  Shows user history of previously searched items  Also shows similar products of what has been previously searched

14 Recognition rather than recall  Auto-complete feature on the search bar helps the user with spelling and remembering or completing what the item is  Whenever a search is done, there is no “Home” button  The home button is labeled at the top left as “amazon try prime”; this gives the impression that clicking on that will give info on Prime accounts

15 Flexibility and efficiency of use  Creating an account saves user information (credit card, address, etc.) so that when they go back to make purchases in the future, all of the information is already stored there  Ability to review order before completing the purchase  Using the filter on the left side helps narrow down the product the user is looking for

16 Aesthetic and minimalist design  There is too much clutter on the home page of irrelevant material  The product that is searched has all relevant and important information that a user can briefly scan  Important buttons such as Place Your Order is in its own area away from other buttons so that it is not accidently clicked by mistake

17 Help users recognize, diagnose, and recover from errors  Login error  Search options can offer suggestions when word has been misspelled  Indicates whenever item has been deleted, save for later, or if shopping cart is empty

18 Help and documentation  Your Account page groups questions based on relevance  Help page is location at both the top and bottom of every page
