SAPS is the leading agency to deal with national security and matters of law enforcement and crime prevention. Protection of identified VVIP’S for the FIFA 2010 WORLD CUP JMPD will play a supportive role to the SAPS as per our core functions OUR focus will be on traffic management and road safety Our Operational/Deployment Plans are aligned according to the standards and requirements of the SAPS. The CoJ and JMPD have developed, in cooperation with the South African Police Service (SAPS) PROVJOINT level and all City’s internal and external departments, a draft safety and security operational plan for all the CoJ 2010 FWC Venues. The plan was completed in October of last year and presented at POVJOINTS level. A series of workshops with PROVJOINTS, all the City’s Departments, MoEs, Provincial Departments and the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) havebeen conducted in 2009 to align all the various stake-holders with regard to the CoJ 2010 FWC Venues safety and security operational plan. The plan, in GIS format, was handed over to all the role-players in order that the security provisions are included in the role-players operational plans. In addition, JMPD have finalized a draft JMPD Deployment Plan for the 2010 FWC. The Deployment plan have been circulated to all City’s internal and external relevant departments involved in the 2010 FWC planning process for feedback and information. JMPD in collaboration with SAPS have further embarked on a crime mapping and analysis exercise of the Ellis Park/Soccer City Stadiums within a 2km radius. Together with SAPS and other uniform organisations this process will guide and assist us in the prevention/reduction of crime and grime before and during the event at the greater stadium precincts.
