3  they don´t like eating in a hurry, but enjoy a peace and quiet over dinner in a restaurant  they are polite – always saying „please“, „thank you“, „excuse me“  have a special humour – we say a dry humour which is not understood by many people  are a sport loving nation – they are fond of football, tennis or rugby, many sports originated (majú pôvod -vznikli) there

4  like animals, many people keep pets  love their royal family – Queen but they don´t like if foreigners make jokes of her  their national drink is tea, so they enjoy it several times a day, a cup of tea is called „cuppa“ for short, they usually drink it with milk

5  In Britain, we can find four main nationalities English, Scottish, Irish, Welsh. The majority of people speak English. Other languages are Welsh, Irish and Scottish Gaelic.majority  There are also lots of other nationalities – Bangladeshes, Pakistanies, Indians ( people who came from former British colonies), Chinese or people from Eastern Europe. Britain is a multicultural country.formermulticultural country. 5

6  If you walk down a street in Britain, especially in the bigger cities you will usually see people with different hair, skin and eye colours. They have white, brown or black skin. Many of them are British people but they all look different because the people of Britain are a mixed race.  People moving to Britain have brought their own cultures and try to keep two cultures alive. An excellent example of this is the Notting Hill Carnival which celebrates the Caribbean Culture and is now a part of the British life.

7  The national flag is called UNION JACKUNION JACK  It is made up of three crosses – white and red for England, white and blue for Scotland and white and red for Ireland 7 England Scotland Ireland

8  The UK is a constitutional monachy which means the head of the state is a monarch (king or queen). Today it is Elisabeth II who has just very little political power, she is just a symbol, represents the country.  The British government runs (riadi) the UK. The leader of the government is the Prime Minister. (David Cameron) – his seat is at10 Downing Street  The British Parliament consists of two chambers – the House of Lords nd House of Commons  There are two main political parties - Conservative and Labour Party

9  Explain why the British are reseverved in manners, polite and disciplined.  What do they like and dislike?  What kind of society is the British one? Why?  Name four main nationalities and other ones.  What do people of other nationalities try to keep alive? Give example.  What do you know about the British flag?  What does a constitutional monarchy mean?  What do you know about the British government?  How many chambers does the Parliament have?  The British Political parties
