2 Academic Assistance Center Programs University Experience course PILOTS program Tutoring Services

3 Provides orientation to college life at K-State Teaches study skills, campus resources, career decision making, academic planning, K-State policies & procedures, and personal/social issues Counts as K-State 8 requirement for Ethical Reasoning & Responsibility EDCEP 111 University Experience

4 Course is offered for 2-3 credits using a Lecture/recitation/lab (optional) format Lecture is required for all students Sections such as AA, AC and AE are lecture/ recitation only for 2 credits and open to any student Section CA is for athletes only. EDCEP 111 University Experience

5 Enhanced version (EUE) is chosen by more than 75% of EDCEP 111 students EUE provides academic skills practice in two targeted courses through guided study labs Students who take EUE with 2 labs earn 3 credits instead of 2 credits EUE is taught by undergraduate peer instructors who serve as mentors during the semester EDCEP 111 University Experience

6 a 9-10 credit hr. package of courses Enhanced University Experience ANTH 204 BIOL 198 HIST 251 GEOG 100 GEOL 125 PSYCH 110 SOCIO 211 MATH 010 MATH 100 Social Science Science Lecture orients students to issues and services relevant to the K-State experience. Recitation introduces academic and personal skills that contribute to student success in college. Labs focus on specific study strategies to use in courses that students have in common. Lab 1 choices Lab 2 choices Enhanced University Experience

7 In iSIS, add student to Student Group AC12 for permission Decide what course or courses the student wants the lab to help with Choose an EUE recitation & lab that goes with one of those courses from the list provided Choose a lecture section from the list provided For help with a second course, choose a lab from the list provided on the back page Select the appropriate number of credit hours [3 credits only if enrolling in 2 labs] How to Enroll

8 Reserved Seats Seats are reserved for EUE students in these courses P PSYCH 110, SOCIO 211, ANTH 204, HIST 251 Only students in AC12 student group have access to these reserved seats Class status will be marked with the Reserved Seating icon when no unreserved seats are available Reserved Open Closed Wait List R

10 Free to all K-State students Offered in most general subjects 80% of requests are for math & science help Students sign up for weekly times during the day Undergraduate tutors meet with 4 - 5 students Apply in 101 Holton or 201 Leasure Small group tutoring

11 Available daily 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. in 201 Leasure Offered in math courses up through MATH 551 Walk-in tutoring Available 20 hours a week -- see posted schedule Provides help with any writing project Math Writing

16 PILOTS has the advantage of... ● Smaller classes in social sciences (and College Algebra in the spring) for more individual attention ● On the spot tutoring in the PILOTS study lab ● Personalized advising throughout the semester ● A community within a community PILOTS courses have the SAME curriculum as non-PILOTS courses– they are not watered down

19 Enrolling Students in PILOTS ● PILOTS has spaces for 200 students ● PILOTS is recommended for students with an ACT composite of 21 or less ● PILOTS is especially appropriate for first generation and multicultural students ● Students who want PILOTS must enroll in 101 Holton with the PILOTS advisors
