Riding on the Wings of an Eagle Like an eagle that stirs up its nest and hovers over its young, that spreads its wings to catch them and carries them on its pinions. The Lord alone led him. Deuteronomy 32:11-12

The Facts, Please! A eagle is a bird of prey – a flesh eater. It is one of the largest birds and is very strong. Different species of eagles vary from each other in size, looks, and habits. But all eagles have large, strong bills and powerful claws (talons). All four claws of each foot are sharp and curved. An eagle’s feet are well suited for grabbing hold of a small animal and carrying it high into the sky. His bill enables him to tear the flesh of his prey when it is too big to swallow whole.

An eagle has very keen eyesight, enabling her to see her prey from hundreds of feet in the air. She swoops down from the sky and seizes and kills the prey. Then she carries it back to her nest, tears it apart, and shares it with her eaglets. The Facts, Please! http://www.freespiritart.com/storm-bald-eagle.php

An eagle’s nest is called an eyrie. These large nests are built high and inaccessible, like in the rocks of a high mountain or on top of a tall tree. The Facts, Please! http://travis.typepad.com/photos/curves_curiosities/img_9748.html

The Facts, Please! When it is time for the eaglets to learn to fly, the mother stirs up the nest, disturbing her little birds into leaving it. She hovers over them as they begin to fall through the air. Then she swoops down under them, bears them up on her outstretched wings, and carries them back to safety. After a few such lessons, the little eaglets learn to copy her wing movements in the air. They learn what flying is, and soon they can soar through the sky on their own wings. http://www.windowsonnature.com/Nature_Pages/Nature_Map/Pages/Haines_Web_Images/pages/BD_Eagle_Hea d_On.htm
