2 CLU Challenge As identified by CLU faculty, Challenge involves being engaged in diverse intellectual and perceptual situations that test the limits and expand the boundaries of our assumptions, our creativity, and our reasoning. It involves listening and learning with an open mind, a critical eye, and a cooperative spirit.

3 CLU Engagement As identified by CLU faculty, “Engagement involves being challenged with diverse intellectual and perceptual situations that encourage not only asking good, essential questions, but also using creativity, problem- solving and decision-making skills, and thoughtful research. It involves making both theoretical applications and interdisciplinary connections. And, perhaps most important of all, engagement requires that our students take responsibility for their learning.”

4 NSSE (National Survey Student Engagement) Student engagement has been defined as “the time and energy students devote to educationally sound activities inside and outside the classroom, and the policies and practices that institutions use to induce students to take part in these activities” (Kuh, 2003).
