2 “The University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine, founded in 1946, is dedicated to training future veterinarians, providing services to animal owners and veterinarians, and conducting investigations to improve the health of animals as well as people.” The College enrolls 102 students each fall out of the approximately 550 who apply. It has more than 145 faculty members. Received full accreditation once again in 2006.

3 The College offers a doctorate in veterinary medicine and post-doctoral training of interns and residents. It also offers a college-wide, interdisciplinary master's degree in veterinary and biomedical science, dual-degree DVM-Masters of Public Health (DVM-MPH) and the Veterinary Medical Scientist Training (DVM-PhD) programs, as well as post-DVM master's degrees in avian medicine and food animal medicine.interdisciplinary master's degreeDVM-Masters of Public HealthVeterinary Medical Scientist Training (DVM-PhD) Doctoral degree programs are offered in physiology, pharmacology, pathology, parasitology, and infectious diseases.

4 -Get a well-rounded undergraduate education and major in any subject that interests you. -Make sure you earn at least a C(2.00) in the courses we require. -Complete all required courses by the end of the spring term in the year when you plan to enroll in the College of Veterinary Medicine.

5 6 hours of English; 14 hours of humanities or social studies; 8 hours of inorganic chemistry (full year with laboratory); 8 hours of organic chemistry (full year with laboratory); 8 hours of physics (full year with laboratory); 3 hours of biochemistry; 8 hours of general biology (for science majors; full year with laboratory — please note that BIOL 1103 and BIOL 1104 taken at UGA will NOT count towards our general biology requirement); 8 hours of advanced biology courses (recommended: comparative anatomy, microbiology, cell biology, genetics).

6 Take the Graduate Record Exam with the Analytical Writing portion and the GRE Biology Subject Test. Tests must be taken in time for the official results to be received (not postmarked) by the College by November 30th (effective immediately) of the year of the October 1 application deadline. The Analytical Writing test will be required. Applicants who have previously applied through VMCAS must have their scores resubmitted to the College by the Educational Testing Service (ETS).

7 In order to be considered for admission, the applicant must have either a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or greater, or a combined score on the verbal and quantitative portions of the GRE of 1200 or greater. Applicants must meet one or the other of these two criteria to be considered. It is not required that they meet both.

8 Do UGA students get special preference? No preference is given to students from any institution. Preference for admission is given to applicants who are residents of Georgia, South Carolina, West Virginia or Delaware. Preference for admission Applicants are free to take the courses required for admission at any accredited college or university, including community colleges that is accredited through the Commission on Colleges and Universities. A contract with the Southern Regional Educational Board provides for the enrollment of up to 17 students from South Carolina, up to 6 from West Virginia and up to 2 from Delaware. Up to 10 students may be accepted from any of the other 46 states or Puerto Rico. The balance of the 102 students admitted each year are Georgia residents.

10 September 15 Requests for course substitutions/waivers and approval of online courses intended to meet a prerequisite requirement must be received by this date. October 1 * VMCAS Applications must be submitted to VMCAS by this date. * Evaluation forms also must be sent to VMCAS postmarked by this date. * Official transcripts from all institutions of higher education the applicant attended must be sent to the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine postmarked by this date. * The required supplemental application (Effective July 1, 2010, all applicants must complete this form) and $50 processing fee are due by this date.required supplemental application November 30 Standardized test scores must be received by the College (institution code 5752) by this date.
