Marshall Bruce Mathers III was born in St. Joseph, Missouri in Right off the bat Marshall was off to a rough start. Deborah Mathers-Briggs was his mother and she was married to Marshal Bruce Mathers Jr. The father left Mrs. Briggs shortly after their son was born. This was a devastating impact on young Marshall as he struggled to find happiness. Marshall’s mother was unsuccessful at keeping a job and maintaining a happy family setting, which had caused them to move multiple times. The fourth move seemed to be the best for this crumbling family. Deborah had wound up in Warren, Michigan. Marshall was growing older and was around the age of fourteen when he became interested in Hip-hop. By Sterling Evans

2 Marshall Bruce Mathers III born in Missouri, 1972. Marshall and his mother had moved many times, finally settling in Detroit Michigan. When he was fourteen, Marshall became interested in Hip-Hop and started writing his own lyrics to beats.

3 M&M Marshall Mathers created his new stage name after his intitials, M&M. M&M would constantly be using makeshift stages to show off his microphone skills. His favorite place to perform was in the basement of Moniker Manix. Bassmint Productions was M&M’s first group he had ever joined. Shortly after buying a copy of the Beastie Boys album Licensed to Ill, Marshall would pretend he was rapping and writing his own lyrics. Marshall enjoyed hopping from group to group and discovering which style he liked the most. He stumbled upon the group known as the New Jacks crew to Soul Intent. Marshall would constantly use every available makeshift stage to showoff his rapping skills. A friend by the name of Manix helped out Marshall with his newly developed microphone skills and would often perform in the basement under the moniker Manix. Marshall Bruce Mathers III later changed his stage name to Eminem, basing it off his initials, M&M. Marshall later joined the group called “Bassmint Productions” and released their first EP called “Steppin' Onto The Scene.” (IMDB).

4 Interscope Records Jimmy Lovine, CEO of Interscope Records contacted M&M after he won the 1997 rap Olympics and requested a demo tape. The tape was played for Dr. Dre, the Executive producer of Aftermath Entertainment. “The Slim Shady LP” was the record that Dr. Dre and M&M produced after Dre liked the demo tape. Jimmy Iovine, The CEO of Interscope Records, requested a demo tape of Marshall’s recordings after Eminem won second place at the 1997 Rap Olympics. Jimmy Iovine played the tape for record producer Dr. Dre, founder of Aftermath Entertainment, multi millionaire and self -proclaimed entrepreneur. Following this connection between the two, they began recording tracks for Eminem's upcoming major-label debut The Slim Shady LP.

5 1999 Eminem was signed to Aftermath entertainment/Interscope records.
Triple Platinum 1999 Eminem was signed to Aftermath entertainment/Interscope records. After his release of “The Slim Shady LP,” it went triple platinum by the end of the year. “My Name Is” one of the most popular songs of Eminem’s career. In 1999 According to Billboard Magazine, at this point in his life Eminem had “realized his musical ambitions were the only way to escape his unhappy life”. (IMDB). Eminem was signed to the record label Aftermath Entertainment/Interscope Records in 1998 and shortly after in 1999 released his first album, “The Slim Shady LP.” Dr Dre stated about the album, "light years ahead of the material he had been writing beforehand". The new record was one of the most popular albums in the remainder of the century. Eminem had no idea that it would go triple platinum by the end of the year. Glory of going triple platinum was short lived when Marshall’s mother sued him for around ten million dollars over some lyrics that were in the record “The Slim Shady LP” she won only about sixteen hundred in damages in 2000. - /artist/eminem/album/the-slim-shady-lp-edited

6 Trouble with the Law In 2000, Eminem was arrested during an argument at a local car audio store. Two weeks later he was arrested again for drawing a handgun out and keeping it loaded on his side. Two years probation was given for both crimes. Eminem’s history with the law was continuing as he was arrested in and during argument at a car audio store in Michigan. He was with a good friend when the two pulled out unloaded guns and kept it to their sides. Once again His name was becoming a threat to local officers and the following day he charged with assault from an altercation when he saw his wife kiss a bouncer at a local café. Eminem was given two years probation for both of these crimes.

7 Eminem created a group of close friends called “D12” or “Dirty Dozen.”
Shady Records Interscope records granted Eminem with his own record label called “Shady Records” Eminem created a group of close friends called “D12” or “Dirty Dozen.” This was a group that included many underground rappers and became an overnight sensation. “D12 World” was the first album produced with the new group. Interscope was noticing big improvements from Eminem as he was so successful in creating multi-platinum record sales. Interscope had given eminem his own record label, Shady records. It was created in 2000 with his own personal manager. Eminem had many friends in the game and wanted to gather a group for an album recording of mixed tapes. The rapper Proof and Eminem created the “Detroit Twelve” or “Dirty Dozen”. This included twelve underground rappers that created an album of mixed beats and lyrics that was a great success and made most of the twelve an over night sensation.

8 Eminem Heating Up In 2002 Eminem Created another album called “The Eminem Show.” The album sold over 1 million copies and was number one on the charts. In 2002 Eminem was just heating up. He had created another album called “The Eminem Show.” The third album was released and had proven to be another great uproar for this young rappers career. Within its first week of release, it sold over 1 million copies and was number on the charts. The new album featured the song “Without Me”, an apparent sequel to “The Real Slim Shady.” (IMDB). On December 8, 2003, Eminem had another run in with the United States Secret Service. They were looking in to some lyrics that Marshall had presented in this album, something along the lines of the President of the United States being threatened. The secret service was unsuccessful in pressing charges on his lucrative lyrics.

9 Encore Eminem released his fourth album “Encore” in 2004.
“Come here little kiddies, On my lap, Guess who's back with a brand new rap? And I don't mean rap as in a new case of child molestation accusation (HA-HA-HA-HA-HA )No worries, papa's got a brand new bag of toys What else could I possibly do to make noise? I done touched on everything, but little boys That's not a stab at Michael That's just a metaphor, I'm just psycho” (Eminem’s hit Just Lose It.) Eminem released his fourth album “Encore” in 2004. This album had another hit single that was at the top of the charts. “Just Lose It.” Encore had many racial slurs and false depictions of famous celebrities. Michael Jackson was one of those that wasn’t pleased to hear the release of this album. Eminem was now thirty-two years old when he released his fourth album, “Encore.” This album had another hit single that was at the top of the charts. “Just Lose It.” Was the name of the song, which was known for talking smack towards Michael Jackson. In October 2004, just a short time after the debut of “Just Lose It”, “Michael Jackson called into the Los Angeles-based Steve Harvey radio show to report his displeasure with the video, which parodies Jackson's child molestation trial.” (Todaymsnbc).

10 A Painful Loss DeShaun Dupree Holton, aka P, Big Proof, Proof or Derty Harry died at 4.30 am on 11 April at the age of 32. That night, he had been at the CCC club, an after-hours establishment on a sketchy stretch of East 8 Mile road in Detroit. He found himself in an argument with Keith Bender Jr., Within a few minutes, both Bender and Proof were fatally shot. A bullet to Bender's face took his life eight days later, while Proof was killed instantly by two shots to his back and one to the back of his head. The jump back to the “Dirty Dozen.” Eminem informed his long time friend proof that “D12” should take a break from the studio, and then re unite to make another album. Eminem never knew he would never see his best friend again, D12 member Deshaun “Proof” Holton was killed. The scene was a local club on 8-Mile road in Michigan. The fight started when Keith Bender Jr. interrupted a game of pool. The guns were drawn and Proof shot by the bouncer Mario Etheridge, which happened to be Bender's cousin. Proof was taken to St. John Health's Conner Creek Campus, but was pronounced dead as he arrived. Former Detroit Shady Records artist Obie Trice spoke at the funeral and said "Proof, he loved people, and people loved him. He was just a people magnet.” “When you first met him, you wanted to know more about him,” said Eminem, who wore a black suit and occasionally wiped his eye as he stood by the gold-colored casket. “Without Proof, there would be no Eminem, no Slim Shady and no D12. You're the man.” (Todaymsnbc).

11 Vicodin, Lortab, & Valium
In 2005, Eminem was on tour when he admitted himself into a Drug Rehab center for prescription meds. Eminem stated “ I would take 40 vicodin, a handful of lortab and a few valium to get through the day.” Finishing out the year 2005, Marshall was performing as Eminem live on the Anger Management Tour in August. Eminem had taken a three-year plunge and finally embraced on his first tour. This tour was named the Anger Management tour and had featured 50 Cent, Lil' Jon, Obie Trice and others. “In August 2005, Eminem canceled the European leg of the tour and subsequently announced that he had entered drug rehabilitation for treatment for a "dependency on sleep medication."(Treatmentnetwork). Many record labels were stating that Eminem was going to end glorious career after six years and several multi-platinum albums. Marshall Bruce Mathers III had fallen into a deep depression and was using overdosing medication daily. Eminem stated he would take an astonishing forty vicodin, and a handful lortab just to get through the day. Eminem was found in his house overdosed and almost dead and was taken to intensive care.

12 Eminem Wrote his first auto biography in 2008, it was named “The Way I Am.”
In this book, it explains how Marshal Mathers had a dependency on pain killers and how his struggles with fame and depression almost killed him. Concluding the autobiography a new album will be released called “Relapse.” The Way I AM Three years later in 2008, after his close call with death Eminem released an autobiography, which was titled “The Way I Am,” which portrayed his daily struggles with drugs, fame, and depression. It also gave in great detail how dealing with that amount of drugs and being able to get them so quickly almost killed him. Later that year Eminem spilled some details about his new album he was producing which was called Relapse. He said, “Me and Dre are back in the lab like the old days, man. Dre will end up producing the majority of the tracks on “Relapse”. We are up to our old mischievous ways ... let's just leave it at that.” (IMDB).

13 Miriah Carey & M&M Eminem states he has had a relationship with Miriah Carey, but she denies every bit of it. In many of his songs he makes remarks about dating her and crude jokes about their relationship. Miriah came out with a song that takes a stab at M&M and its called “Obsessed.” That song released the beast inside of Eminem, he brewed up a storm that she was not ready for. The following year 2009, Eminem stated he was going to release two tracts off his new album “Relapse.” The official release was on May 19, Throughout Eminem’s career he has this ongoing soap opera drama with the pop star Miriah Carey. They are both well-known music artists that had a so-called relationship and this is how it is portrayed. “Eminem states he has had a relationship with Miriah Carey, although she denies the claim.” (SongFacts).

14 The Warning “Only reason I dissed you in the first place is cause you denied seein me Now I'm pissed off. If I'm embarrassin me I'm embarrassin you And don't you dare say it isn't true As long as that song's gettin airplay I'm dissin you I'm a hair away from gettin carried away and gettin sued I was gonna stop at 16, that was 32 This is 34 bars, we ain't even third of the way through "Dang Slim, Mariah play you," Mariah who?” ( The Warning, Eminem) A few of the songs that Eminem has produced that has strong lyrical content, meant to shoot down Carey. “Superman”, “Jimmy Crack Corn”, “Bagpipes From Baghdad”, and “The Warning” are great examples of these crude yet personal tracts Eminem has created. Miriha created a song called “Obsessed” which portrays a man who is obsessed with her and is trying to be in her life every second. Nick Cannon, Miria’s husband, stated that the track was not meant to be directed at Eminem and he had no hard feelings. Well Eminem thought differently and produced the crude song “The Warning.” “The song calls out Miriah and husband Nick Cannon's relationship. Cannon responded to Eminem by saying his career is based on “racist bigotry”, and that he would get revenge on Eminem, joking that he may return to rapping. Eminem later stated that the couple misinterpreted the track and it was wishing the two the best.” (Williams).

15 Recovery “Recovery” is Eminem’s latest album.
This album is unlike the others, this has many melodies and solo vocal intervals from Eminem. Many songs in this album explain the hardships and how he has recovered from the drugs, and now is sober. “Recovery” was released June 18, 2010. “Them last two albums didn't count,” Eminem, states on “Talkin 2 Myself.” This is the second track on his new album he released called “Recovery.” “Encore, I was on drugs / Relapse, I was flushing them out. / I've come to make it up to you... I've got something to prove to fans since I feel like I let them down.” (Williams). Eminem has an odd thought of how to re-claim his fans after his blowout with drugs. In his new album Eminem has tried a different technique in producing music. All of his albums have him rapping and in recovery they have a melody mixed with Eminem singing. Now many people think that Eminem isn’t a vocalist but he proves many wrong with singing most of the tracks choruses. For the content of this new album the vast majority has fallen into a few categories. Eminem has passed out many insults to rappers that he feels have no business in the rapping game. The second category is about his personal trials tribulations of one of most known rappers in the world and having and being a multi-millionaire. The third and final category is his lyrical mysteries. He will rhyme many words that you would not expect and has wide variety of his choice vocabulary

Eminem is devastated and lets the gunman know that he will be out for revenge. “They say music can alter moods and talk to you Well can it load a gun up for you, and cock it too Well if it can, then the next time you assault a dude Just tell the judge it was my fault and I’ll get sued See what these kids do is hear about us totin' pistols And they want to get one cause they think the sh*t's cool Not knowin' we really just protectin' ourselves, we entertainers Of course the sh*ts affectin' our sales, you ignoramus But music is reflection of self, we just explain it, and then we get our Checks in the mail” (Azlyrics) In the third verse, Eminem raps about how music is his relief from his depression and how it can benefit to young people. He also states that the public sees the rap industry as they just write lyrics and get paid in the mail when really it’s quite the opposite. They sing for kids without a dream and try to inspire the inner soul of this younger generation to find their true happiness. It informs the listeners that he had a serious drug addiction and that he was in black hole going nowhere. Eminem had admitted himself to a drug rehab center to treat his addiction to pain and sleeping pills. Many fans of Eminem thought this was the end of his career, especially because it was on short notice that he dropped from his live tour to get help. “Considered by both fans and critics as the strongest song off Relapse, “Beautiful” is the only song Eminem actually recorded during the hiatus between albums Encore and Relapse when he was not clean.” (Extratorrent.) Here stated in the second verse shows exactly how drugs and fame are playing the majority of his life. “I think I'm starting to lose my sense of humor Everything is so tense and gloom I almost feel like I gotta check the temperature in the room Just as soon as I walk in It's like all eyes on me So I try to avoid any eye contact 'cause if I do that then it opens a door for conversation Like I want that... I'm not looking for extra attention I just want to be just like you Blend in with the rest of the room.” (Azlyrics) The final verse of the track, Eminem shows that he has more hopefulness for the remainder of his future. After being released from his rehab, Eminem has sobered up and he informed a popular magazine “This song is the only one he kept from the recordings he made during that dark period in his life.” (SongFacts) He went on further to explain "One of the only reasons that I put that track on there is that I feel like it's the best song out of that batch that I did when I wasn't sober. At the time I felt like, 'This is it for me.' I wrote the first verse and a half in rehab, and when I came out, I finished it. It was the only song that marks that period without bringing me back to that place. Every other track not only didn't fit with the album, but when I listened to it, it would bring up bad memories."
