3 Creating Curriculum Components Select Curriculum Components from the Grades Menu The Curriculum Components screen will now appear with three tabs. Unit Components are the “big picture” in a curriculum guide and Lesson Components are the bite sized parts of the curriculum guide. Component Templates allows specialists to save selected created unit and lesson components to use on future curriculum guides.

4 Creating Curriculum Components Select Curriculum Components from the Grades Menu Name the component and select the text type Plain Text: Allows for basic typing of information with no character limit Rich Text: Allows users to input charts, images, links etc. Short Text: Allows for basic typing of information, with a character limit of 255 Number: Allows users to input only numeric values Date: Allows users to input a date Select One: Allows user to select one option from a created list Select Multiple: Allows users to select multiple options from a created list.

5 Creating Curriculum Components Set user restrictions Setting Teachers Only will restrict the component so that only teachers will have the option of adding it, curriculum specialists and content specialists will not be able to use the component. Admins Only will restrict the component so that only curriculum specialists and content specialists will be able to add the component. Admins and Teachers will ensure all users are able to add the component to a curriculum guide or lesson plans

6 Creating Curriculum Components Set Parent/Student Visibility If this box is not checked, parents and students will not be able to see the component or the content within the component. This would be useful for including information about accommodations or other possible confidential information.

7 Creating Curriculum Components Once all components have been created, they will appear on the screen and can be edited at any time.

8 Component Templates Select the Component Templates tab Create a title for the template and select the desired components from either or both columns. These templates can now be used when creating new curriculum guides.

9 Creating Curriculum Guides Select Curriculum Guides from the Grades Menu Select New Course Plan will act as the Curriculum Guide that teachers will be able to import and use Name the Course Plan

10 Curriculum Guides If a template has been created, either select a template or desired components Select a Course Number to assign the Curriculum Guide to assign the Curriculum Guide to.

11 Curriculum Guides From the New Course Plan screen, clicking on Teacher Restrictions will allow administrators and Curriculum specialists to ensure fidelity with curriculum guides Once satisfied, select Create Course Plan.

12 Curriculum Guides The newly created curriculum guide will appear on the screen. Select New Unit to begin building the curriculum guide. After typing in the desired title, select the plus sign. A Unit is the “big picture”. For example, a math class covers several topics, throughout the year. The first topic covered is multiplication. Multiplication would be the unit title. Typically, districts will set up the units and allow teachers to define the units.

13 Curriculum Guides The newly created unit now opens up on the screen Clicking on the dotted lines of the components will open them up so that curriculum specialist or teachers are able to add information.

14 Curriculum Guides Resources On the right hand side of the screen, there are resources that can be added to the curriculum guide. To add a resource, simply drag and drop it into the unit within the curriculum guide.

15 Curriculum Guides Resources There are various resources that can be added to the curriculum guide. Files: Any file type. PDFs, JPEGs, GIFs can all be embedded Link: Links to external websites Label: Insert text, pictures, charts etc. Discussion Forum: Allows for students to discuss an assigned topic Assignment: Add an assignment to the selected unit within the curriculum guide Standard: Search for standards to associate with the selected unit within the curriculum guide

16 Files Drag and drop the File resource in the guide. Click on Select File Next, either drag and drop the desired file from the desktop or click on Select to search for the desire file.

17 Files Locate the desired file and click on Open. Click on uploaded file to add it to the curriculum guide.

18 Files If the file is a jpeg, gif, or pdf, it can be embedded. To do this, check the Embed box.

19 Links Drag and drop the Link resource in the guide. Put the web address in the Web Address box. Videos that come from youtube.com can be embedded, check the embed box to embed the video in the curriculum guide.

20 Labels Drag and drop the Label resource in the guide. With the Label resource, users are able to put in pictures, tables, math symbols and more.

21 Discussion Forum Drag and drop the Discussion Forum resource into the guide.

22 Discussion Forum There are several options available in the discussion forum. By default, posts requite teacher approval before being visible. In addition, be default, students are only able to view content from their section. Other options include limiting the number of posts a student can make, allowing students to start their own topics, and making the discussion forum count for a grade.

23 Assignment Drag and drop the Assignment resource into the guide. Fill out the information for the assignment. This assignment will appear in the teacher’s gradebook. Assignment category cannot be set as, teacher’s might not have categories set in their gradebook.

24 Standard Standards can be attached to any curriculum guide. Dragging and dropping the standard resource into the guide will provide a search bar that will allow for searching all imported standards, regardless of what subject the curriculum guide is aligned with.

25 Moving Resources To control the order that the resources appear use the gray triangles to move the resources up and down. Use the minus sign to the left of the triangles to minimize the resource If the resource is minimized click on the plus sign open it back up To completely delete a resource, click on the red minus sign. To save the curriculum guide, click the Save button at the top of the screen. Collapse and Expand will open minimize or open all resources in the selected unit of the Curriculum Guide. The view what the curriculum guide will look like for teachers, select the Preview button

26 Year at a Glance The Year at a Glance button will show all the terms in the school year, and where all the units/lessons fall within the calendar.

27 Finished Curriculum Guide

28 Editing Curriculum Guides To edit a curriculum guide after it has been created, click on the desired curriculum guide and select the Edit link. Make any desired changes to the curriculum guide. If teacher’s have imported the guide already, select Push Updates to Teachers. This will allow for any updates made to the unit to automatically be pushed to the teachers. Teachers will not lose created lesson plans when updates are pushed out. Once all selections have been made, select Save Changes

29 Viewing Teacher Lesson Plans Administrators are able to view teacher created lesson plans. To access teacher lesson plans, select Teacher Lesson Plans from the Grades menu. From the screen either search for a specific teacher or click on Search to view all teachers from the school.

30 Viewing Teacher Lesson Plans From this screen, selecting Preview on a plan will open up the teacher’s lesson plan. Selecting Review will bring up options to view a selected unit, make comments on units, and check off that the lesson plan has been reviewed.

31 Viewing/Printing Curriculum Guides To view all district created curriculum guides, select Lesson Plan/Curriculum Guide Detail Report from the Grades menu. From here, administrators are able to either view or print the district created curriculum guides.

33 Viewing/Printing Lesson Plans Selecting Teacher Course Plans will allow administrators see to see lesson plans that were created by teachers with the assigned school. School based administrators will only be able see lesson plans at the assigned school.
