12 Common Core and Essential Standards Professional Development 2011-2012 Session 1 provides the background information for the transition to Common Core and Essential Standards. It also contains the professional development timeline for Year 1.

13 Let’s Get Started Session 2 will be comprised of content- specific reviews of the Common Core and Essential Standards led by the Instructional Services Team.

14 Call for Change Session 3, Call for Change, helps everyone understand the evolution of the new standards and assessments. It also provides guidance into accessing instructional resources developed by DPI.

15 Revised Bloom’s Taxonomy Session 4 includes the module, Revised Bloom’s Taxonomy. NCDPI developed the Essential Standards using these levels of thinking.

16 Literacy in the Content Areas Session 5, Literacy in the Content Areas, examines the impact of the Common Core Content Literacy standards on all curricular areas.

17 Principals and Assessments Principals and Assessment is a session designed specifically for administrators. It includes a NC FALCON Module on leading formative assessment efforts in the school building.

18 North Carolina Professional Teaching Standards Session 6, NC Professional Teaching Standards, takes an in- depth look at how the standards relate to the new evaluation tool.

19 Learning Targets Session 7, Learning Targets, contains a module from NC FALCON that helps teachers identify what students should learn.

20 Collecting and Documenting Evidences Session 8, Collecting and Documenting Evidences, contains a NC FALCON module that helps teachers know what to look for when determining success.

21 The Standards Session 9, The Standards, will be specific to each content area and led by the Instructional Services Team.

22 Analyzing Evidence and Descriptive Feedback Session 10, Analyzing Evidence and Descriptive Feedback, includes a NC FALCON module that prepares teachers to provide meaningful and targeted feedback.

23 Developing Local Curricula Session 11, Developing Local Curricula, provides opportunities for collaboration on locally- developed instructional support documents.

24 What’s Next? Session 12, What’s Next, contains Year 2 implementation plans. It also contains a NC FALCON module designed specifically for students.
