10 Need to become more strategic & proactive Need to be recognised across London as the key body for London Health Libraries Need for “branding” to raise profile Conscious that relationship with area & working groups needs to be looked at Need to more assertive with NLH Team about various issues – local capacity to implement national initiatives, governance, accountability.. Who are our key partners now? Library Council Review

11 7.6 million population rising to 8.2 million by 2016 Diverse communities Centres of national & international excellence Areas of great need – mental health / sexual health 30% of healthcare students are educated in London ; 50% of biomedical research is carried out here At least 40% of NHS workforce in London look to a HE-managed library as their main library service Current MPET allocations reflect concentration of education & training in the capital Why is London different?

12 Funding for London top-up secured for 2007-8 ; now looking to get 3 year commitment from SHA Social Care project – 11 health libraries involved. Hope to include another library in 2008/9 Piloting of NSF standards at UCL library service. LHL Service Development Group looking at how NSF will be implemented in London E-learning – most Trusts in London represented at January conference. Significant investment proposed by Deanery for all trainees across London Staff development activities have continued. Plans in place to roll out Search 2.0 training Joint working with Deanery GP department on provision of e-resources for trainees and trainers Some key achievements

13 The show is still on the road, despite reduced capacity – and we are not standing still Communication with library network is easier with one London structure Great potential for more-joined up working – e-learning, Deanery initiatives, HE, social care, public libraries NLH – improvements but still challenges to reach the position when we can say “we are all NLH” Reflections … a year on
