2 On our voyage we pass Marseille,Morocco as we sail through the Straights of Gibraltar. We now head north, past Portugal, France, Ireland and United Kingdom and up to Keflavik in Iceland. All together we will have sailed nearly 2000 miles. When we sailed past the Rock of Gibraltar we saw the famous apes that live there.

3 The population of Keflavik is 7930. Accrington is nearly 5 times bigger than Keflavik. The population of Accrington is 35,203. The capital of Iceland is Reykjavik. The population of Reykjavik is 120,000. The population of all of Iceland is 319,355. England is twenty times bigger than Iceland.

4 There are many animals in Iceland such as; The Icelandic sheepdog, sheep, horses, cows and whales. In Iceland there are special Icelandic cows, a race which has been in the country for over 1000 years. The cows come in many different colours, red, white, grey and black. The cows are rather small, but still give a lot of milk. The milk is very good for drinking, and many products are made from it. The Icelandic sheep is one of the world’s oldest and purest breeds of sheep. The first Vikings brought sheep with them to Iceland over a thousand years ago. The breed is short-tailed and it has many variations of colors and patterns. The most impressive animal you can see in Iceland, is the whale. From several harbors you can book a trip on a boat to search for whales. There are lots of types of fish in Iceland such as codfish, flatfish and deepwater red fish.

5 These are boiling hot geysers. Geysers heat up water using the heat from underground rocks. Then when all the water is boiling the geyser erupts. Strokkur is an Icelandic geyser and is the most famous geyser. There are many more geysers in Haukadalur, however the most active of all is Strokkur, which erupts, more or less, every five minutes.

6 MOUNTAINS IN ICELAND The name of this Mountain is called Hvannadalshnjukur. The height of the Mountain is 2,110 meters The Mountain is the biggest one in Iceland.

7 Most of the larger rivers arise in glaciers. Pjorsa is Iceland’s longest river at 230 kilometres. It is in the southern region of Hofsjokull. The country’s deepest lake is 217 metres deep, it was formed by subsidence.

8 The climate of iceland is cold. It is colder than you would imagine. The temperatures range from minus 40 degrees in the winter to about 25 degrees in the summer. Northern lights BB9 0TL

9 Football is Iceland is a very popular sport. There are several football teams and leagues in Iceland under different football associations in the country. Football has a wide spread popularity in Iceland and there are Icelandic men's teams and women teams. Iceland national football teams takes place in international Football competitions along with other countries. The most popular sport in Keflavik is football.

10 The basketball team in Keflavik is one of the most successful clubs in Icelandic basketball. The men's and women's team have won multiple titles over the years. The club had an Icelandic record with over 200 national titles and cup wins in all age groups.

11 The most famous Icelander is Leifur Eirksson, He was the first European to set foot in America In the year 1000. Another famous Icelander is Eric the Red (Eirikur Thorvaldsson.) Leifur and Eirikur Were father and Son.

12 Landmarks in Iceland Lake Myvatn: Lake Myvatn is a conservation area, it was developed in 1974, the region is a top tourist attraction of Iceland. The lake is also known because of the people who go bird watching. Blue lagoon: One of the most visited places is the Blue lagoon. It is one of the most photographed places. The blue-green algae and white silicon mud is said to be very relaxing. The water is at 40 degree Celsius, and the water is also said to be very curative.

13 In Iceland fish is their main dish and they enjoy pancakes with whipped cream for their dessert. There is a wide range of cheese and other dairy products made in Iceland. There are over 80 types cheese made. The bread they eat is pan bread. Also they eat canned olives that are really ripe, fresh gooseberries and finally for dessert a tropical island dish with tropical fruits also with big fancy marshmallows!

14 Whale killing is the main A ctivity Iceland We think it is bad because whales are becoming extinct.

15 In Iceland they heat their houses by pumping the hot water from the geysers.
