What are the potential problems of communicating with students through Social Media? Shout out…

Social Media – The responsibility Social media communication channels are an incredibly exciting opportunity for both our personal and professional lives. However, as with most things we need to be aware that our online activity comes with potential implications. Therefore we have a duty of care to ensure we act responsibly.

UPSU Student Voice As reps it’s essential that you find out the views on your course, however the Student Voice Team would encourage you to: Stay away from informal talk on Facebook groups relating to your course. Never bring conversations about staff onto Facebook.

Things to think about when using Social Media Timely contactAdmin rights Not all students use social media You are a representative

Google Mail In an age where social media is dominant people will often overlook something that they use in everyday life. As a student you are expected to check your university email account every 48 hours. Email can be used to discuss more private issues or to engage on a professional level.

Keep. Stop. Start. Win! This year we are introducing Keep. Stop. Start. Win!, which should make your lives easier as Reps in capturing and then communicating feedback from students. When posting on social media you could simply use the key questions of...  What would you keep on your course?  What would you stop on your course?  What would you start on your course? The “Win” links in to closing the feedback loop…

Win! One of the key parts of this new approach to capturing student feedback is the “Win” aspect… This is all about ‘closing the feedback loop’. Social media is a great way to shout about your wins, so make sure you tell YOUR students, as well as keeping us posted as the Student Voice Team.
