1 Robert De La Salle BY HAYWOOD STOWE

2 Robert De La Salle was a nobleman who traveled to France in 1666.

3 Robert wanted to be wealthy and trade post, forts, and settlements. Robert had a plan to find more riches for the king but the king wanted him to pay for his own journey. Then started his journey toward the Mississippi.

4 Robert then reached the Mississippi and named the vast region. After that Robert crossed Louisiana for the French king.

5 In 1684 Robert sailed to north America with more than 200 settlers.

6 Robert soon got back to the Mississippi river and claimed the whole area in 1682.

7 Robert then found a colony along the coast of what is now known as Texas. Not long after his settlers were convinced that he was crazy and killed him.

8 TRUE FACT: Robert trained himself to learn American Indian language. CLAIM OF FAME: went to find riches for kings.
