6 Herding Cats at The Khan Academy Khan Academy o What is Khan Academy? o Amazing o Flawed Use LibGuide Content Management software in a new organizational framework Original goal: could we curate the content at Khan Academy to target specific math skills for applicants to review before COMPASS testing?

7 How succesful were we? Value added: Khan is a vast resource. We curated the content and framed it in a targeted context matched to specific skills A potential student sees a sample of a COMPASS math skill being assessed, and is presented with a direct link to a relevant Khan video that DU selected Want to see the site?

8 COMPASS Writing and Reading Test Preparation ENG021 immediately jumped onto this format for COMPASS testing and use in ENG021. Here’s their site:

9 Alignment with Strategic Priorities Budget Neutral o uses existing library resources Potential to increase enrollment o Qualified students have a better chance of showing competency, are not stopped short by "rusty" skills Cross-departmental interaction o Involved Testing, Admissions, Academic Faculty and Library Staff Measurable o Google Analytics to measure visitors, time on page, engagement

10 How does it fit in DU's structure? Links to LibGuides can be placed under "Resources" in Blackboard for MATH030 and ENG021 Linked to from our davenport.edu main site through Arts & Sciences “Open Class Academy” o Prospective students, parents and general public, can see positioning to a primarily external audience o LibGuides = current students, staff and faculty, contextural conversation with a primarily internal audience
