Friday 17 th July 2015 Whilst many schools have been enjoying a relaxing end to their year… students at the Focus Stockport Campus have been building up to an exciting and exhilarating end to their academic year. Whilst many students around the country have switched off from thinking about their progress … students at the Focus Stockport Campus are already planning for how they will exceed their targets in the new academic year. Whilst many students around the country have put away their books and pencil cases …students at the Focus Stockport Campus are getting ready for…

Summer 2015 SDL Project Focus School Stockport Campus KS2 (Year 3 – Year 6)

Do world class businesses close for 6 weeks of the year? Do world class athletes stop training for 6 weeks of the year? Do world class students stop learning for 6 weeks of the year?

The answer is simply… No! So why should Focus Stockport students stop using their brains over the summer holidays? Your brain is like any other muscle in the body, it needs exercise to keep it working in top order! The Summer SDL project allows students the chance to keep learning whilst giving families chance to spend quality time together, going on family visits, going on days outs, going on holiday or just relaxing at home over the summer, before returning refreshed and ready to go in September.

Outline The project is to help you keep up your learning skills over the summer. It is important that you do a little each day rather than a lot in just a short time. The key skills to be developed are:-  Self-management. How well you can organise yourself and your work?  Creative thinking. How well you can think up new ideas and put your thoughts together?  Independent thinking. How you can work on your own and sort things out without having to get help all the time? (some help is always needed)  Team working. Can you sort out working with some of your friends or getting together from time to time and seeing how you are doing by asking for help?  Reflective learning. This is where you can go over your work and look for things to improve  Effective participation. Can you not only work with others but try and keep them interested in the work?

What to do? We have a plan in the school to improve what we do. One big area is attendance. This has really improved over the last year. We are now on 98%. This project is to see what can be done- if anything to move the last percent up to meet the ultimate target of 99%.

Your Task Produce a campaign to get students to consider the importance of attendance. This is to be aimed across the school. You must think of ways of how to make sure every day that a student as off is totally necessary. Think about…………..  Rewards and competitions  Posters around the school  Assemblies  Getting Mums and Dads involved  Getting other students to help those that are not in as much as they should be  How to make up the gap when someone is off We want you to come up with a pack to help the school start in September with a really positive plan to get 99% attendance.

We will give you: Facts and Figures resource sheet 1 Fact and Figures resources sheet 2 Images for use in your own resource making A learning journal to help you plan and record your work You will need to: Present your work in either handwritten or typed format Place it a named folder Include your completed learning journal Hand it in to your teacher at the start of the new term
