2. Lewis and Clark  In May, 1804, Meriwether Lewis and William Clark set out on an amazing expedition across the Louisiana Territory.  It has been nearly 200 years since then, and the bicentennial of their historic journey is rapidly approaching.  The Lewis and Clark expedition was only the third recorded transcontinental crossing of North America, having been preceded to the Pacific coast (on July 20, 1793) by a Canadian expedition led by explorer Sir Alexander Mackenzie.

4. Exploration and colonization  In 1492, a Spanish expedition headed by Christopher Columbus reached the Americas, after which European exploration and colonization rapidly expanded, first through much of the Caribbean sea region (including the islands of Hispaniola, Puerto rico and Cuba) and, early in the 16th century, parts of the mainland's of North and South America.

Texas Independence  They seeked revenge against Santa Anna troop after the fall of the Alamo and execution of survivors/ Texans victory battle of san Jacinto in 1836.  Won the second Battle of Mexican war.  The first battle people were defeated by the Mexicans if Davy Crockett, and Jim Bowe  Early 1800’s American farmers especially from the south looked eagerly at the vast region

12. Gold Rush  A gold rush is a period of feverish migration of workers into the area of a dramatic discovery of commercial quantities of gold. Major gold rushes took place in the 19th century in Australia, Brazil, Canada, South Africa and the United States, while smaller gold rushes took place elsewhere. The Alamo  The Battle of the Alamo (February 23 – March 6, 1836) was a pivotal event in the Texas Revolution following a 13-day siege.  Mexican troops under President General Antonio López de Santa Anna launched an assault on the Alamo Mission near San Antonio de Béxar (modern-day San Antonio, Texas).  All but two of the Texian defenders were killed.  Santa Anna's perceived cruelty during the battle inspired many Texians—both Texas settlers and adventurers from the United States—to join the Texian Army. http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&tab=wl&q=the%20am
