Asus’s EEE PC is the netbook poster child, which introduced lower-cost, less powerful and smaller PCs to the market place.

Netbooks, sometimes called “mini-notebooks” are lightweight, small, and low-priced computers. Some writers ridicule them by calling them “one of the hottest tech toys of the year” Netbooks are 7 to 10 inches. Netbooks are not toys. They are honest-to-goodness real laptops…just a little smaller…and cheaper.

Business In business, they would be extremely useful for field employees who do not need to work with huge amounts of data but still need access to spreadsheets or word processing applications, emails and the Net. Netbooks usually come with standard pre installed Windows XP or Linux operation systems which are already pretty familiar to us so a distinct advantage there. Even when Windows 7 is released it will run on netbooks whereas vista doesn’t. Programs

Students/Kids We can’t forget kids and students either; they would definitely love a Netbook. Perfect for starting them off in computing, great for taking notes and keeping in touch with friends, and a neat introduction to the more expensive laptops. Students can use netbooks to replace textbooks. Netbooks are great if you’re any sort of traveler on the move as they are perfect for simple tasks like basic spreadsheets, word processing, emails and quick access to the Net. They weigh only a few pounds so very light and easy to carry around. Travelers

Rogers defines the innovation-decision process as the "process through which an individual (or other decision making unit such as a group, society, economy, or country) passes through the innovation-decision process". (1) Knowledge- from first knowledge of innovation (2) Persuasion- to forming an attitude toward the innovation (3)Decision- to a decision to adopt or reject (4)Implementation- to implementation of the new idea (5) Confirmation- confirmation of this decision.

Netbooks were outfitted for basic tasks only. One of the first, and credited with starting the Netbook revolution, was the Asus Eee PC, two models of which were launched on October 16, 2007. About the only things you could do with the Asus were word processing, email, and web surfing, but it cost less than $270. Times have changed. Netbooks are now the fastest growing segment of the PC market. For about $360 you can get the new Lenovo S10. Weighing in at a little over 2.6 pounds, this netbook comes with a 1.6 GHz Intel ATOM processor, Windows XP Home Edition, Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950, 512 MB DDR2 SDRAM, 80 GB 5400, Broadcom 11b/g Wi-Fi wireless and even a camera.

Typically outfitted with a three-cell battery Netbooks provide most people an honest three hours of work time. Those outfitted with a six-cell battery claim six hours of run time. That should get you where you are going and then some. The “net” in Netbook comes from Internet.

Netbooks are popping up everywhere! They are the new tool of the business road warrior. Students are also embracing them. All Netbooks are wireless. Software is not a problem. Many come with the Open Office Suite, Skype, Firefox, a multimedia player, photo manager, webcams and even games.

“Computer use has also been linked to better organizational skills, improved literacy and numeracy, better collaboration and analytical thinking “Research shows that students are more motivated and engaged in learning when they have their own computer

According to The Department of Education and Early Childhood, Victoria is currently implementing the Netbook Project for thousands of students which allows them to access the computer at home or at school. Netbooks can be used at home or school and provides access anytime for learning or information purposes. Currently, Westside High School in Macon, GA received a grant for technology. They decided to give all Ninth and Tenth graders Netbooks to use for curriculum and instruction.

Students are given a Netbook to use in the classroom and at home to access/utilize the following: ~ Grades and textbooks ~ Internet and research ~Podcasts and email ~ Skype Teachers are given a Netbook to use in the classroom and at home to access/utilize the following: ~Post grades, communicate with parents and students via email ~ Develop technology based lessons ~ Implement Instruction ~Decrease paperwork ~ Work from home

Administrators can and will monitor students progress from Netbooks Students and teachers work will be displayed on the school website for students, faculty, staff, parents and stakeholders Administrators will survey the 9 th and 10 th grade students and teachers to see the pros and cons of Netbooks Administrators will present findings to the board for further approval
