You will use this for the rest of your life. Goal: Students will be able to confidently and professionally present a 5-7 minute speech on the topic of their choice, with visual aids. Speeches must be ready on Feb. 25/26 You will turn in a rough draft of your speech and me a copy of your visual aids You must include at least 2 outside sources for your research– cited in MLA Format.

3 Mini Speech Choose 1 Topic/Question Choose a Group of 7
While standing in front of your group, discuss your question/topic for 60 seconds. You MUST fill up the whole time, even if you are rambling. You will have 60 seconds to prepare. Is cheating getting worse? Should NFL football players be fined for their personal actions, off the field? Do great leaders have to be outgoing? Should students be able to grade their teachers? Should students be drug tested at schools? Should the government have say in what’s served in America’s school cafeterias? Do boys have pressure from the media to have a certain image, like girls do? Who should teach children to behave– teachers or parents? What current musicians will be famous 50 years from now? Is climate change something to worry about? Overcomingsocialanxiety.com

What are your strengths? What are your weaknesses? What freaks you out about speaking in front of others? What happened to you, physically, while you were speaking?

5 Brainstorming Snowball Activity
Write down 5 things you know a lot about. Write down 2 famous people you’d like to learn more about. Write 2 diseases/illnesses/disorders you’d like to learn more about. Write 1 historical event you’d like to learn more about. Write down 5 things you don’t understand/know about at all.

10 What is a credible source?
-A credible source is a source that can be verified. -A credible source provides accurate information. -A credible source is someone who is an expert in their fields. -A credible source is not trying to persuade or entertain you. They are trying to inform you. -A credible source gives you the depth you need. It doesn’t just skim over important facts. Wikipedia is a good place to start, but don’t let that be your final source.

11 Plagiarism WRITE DOWN YOUR SOURCES AS YOU GO!!! Don’t let them get lost. Whenever you take words that you did not come up with, you need to show where you got them from, or you are plagiarizing.

12 PROJECT Project will be a presentation about the research you have completed. By the time you present your project, you should be an expert on your topic.
