1 Aim: How is Health defined? What are the parts of Health? Introduction to Health Learning Objectives – Students will be able to explain the different parts of health and how it impacts our total health. Language Objectives – List the three parts of Health and identify two or more of the elements of Physical health, Mental health and Social health. Identify how the three parts of health impacts our Wellness and evaluate their own personal health triangle.

2 Do Now What does the term Health or Healthy mean to you?

3 Group Work Define the term Health in your own words. Then explain using your sense. What does it look like? What does it sound like? What does it smell like ? What does it taste like? What does it feel like?

5 Health - a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, not merely the absence of disease or infirmity

6 What does this mean?? Health is Dynamic

7 Health is Dynamic means that it is subject to constant change.

8 Health Continuum- your health can be measured on a sliding scale, with many degree of health and wellness Chronic disease- an ongoing condition or illness such as heart disease, obesity, diabetes and cancer.

11 Wellness – an overall state of wellbeing or total health Once you reach a balance of the different parts of health. It’s an ongoing, life long commitment..

12 The key to wellness is Prevention- the practicing health and safety habits to remain free of disease and injury.

13 Health Education –is the principle by which individuals and groups of people learn to behave in a manner conducive to the promotion, maintenance, or restoration of health. Health Literacy - The degree to which individuals have the capacity to obtain, process, and understand basic health information and services needed to make appropriate health decisions

14 Health Brainstorm List as many words as you can or at least 10 words that are related to Health.

16 Pyramid Fold 1.Fold a sheet of paper into a triangle. Cut off the excess rectangular tab formed by the fold. 2. Open the folded triangle and refold it the opposite way forming another triangle an X-fold pattern. 3. Cut one of the folds to the center of the X, or the midpoint, and stop. This forms two triangular-shaped flaps. 4. Glue one of the flaps under the other, forming a pyramid. 5. Label each section.

18 A Preview to Health Class (Haiku) Health is most Vital Heart, Life, Food, Mind, Body, Soul, This is what we’ll learn

19 Haiku are normally made up of three short lines. The first line usually contains five (5) syllables, the second line seven (7) syllables, and the third line contains five (5) syllables. Haiku doesn't rhyme. A Haiku must "paint" a mental image in the reader's mind. This is the challenge of Haiku - to put the poem's meaning and imagery in the reader's mind in ONLY 17 syllables over just three (3) lines of poetry!
