3 Guddi Baji project is a perfect example of creating livelihoods for youth in a sustainable manner It is an extensive program through which young women (aged 18-30) as Guddi Bajis Guddi Baji Introduction

4 will benefit two ways – by selling Unilever brands & beauty services to women in their vicinity by mobilizing incentives tied to sales of Unilever brands, which will help them establish their own beauty parlors/enterprises

5 Guddi Bajis are energetic & articulate women who are aware of hygiene and beauty facts, the specific brands & are enthusiastic about sharing information with many more This program will give Guddi Baji the opinion leadership they need to sell & promote Unilever beauty brands Guddi Bajjis are women with an entrepreneurial spirit who are interested in earning a dignified livelihoods They are carefully headhunted by BRC from rural areas/villages by virtue of the aforementioned qualities Who are Guddi Bajis

6 Idara-e-Taleem-o-Aagahi (ITA) began the program in collaboration with the Technical Education & Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA), Unilever Pvt. Limited (UPL) Pakistan and the Department of Schools – seeking Government Secondary Schools as hosts in districts Rahim Yar Khan and Bahawalpur in 2010 and 2011. 9 Selecting Criteria: Matriculate (grade X)  Belongs to a village having a minimum population of 5000 and maximum 10000 i.e. 700 – 1500 HHs  Confident & Presentable  Desire to grow & earn extra income  Eager to work with UPL for 3-years at least  Agrees that if she leaves the contract then she will pay back the course fee (Rs.12000 ) Implementation Methodology

10 ITA seeks to provide certified skills and vocational training opportunities to the poor and vulnerable groups in Pakistan through clusters of social enterprise and empowerment. Over 66% of Pakistan’s 180 million population is under 30 years of age and almost 50% classified as poor and vulnerable. Only 11% of the population reaches grade X and 5% higher education; approximately 2% are enrolled in technical vocational programs - a huge untapped potential is waiting to be explored. Paid Groups

11 Vision Provide economic and social empowerment to disadvantaged youth through skills and livelihoods. Mission To reduce poverty through extension of skills and economic opportunities particularly for young women as competent trained entrepreneurs across Pakistan.

47 Monitoring is performed by the ITA’s team on a weekly basis through physical verification and mobile technologies ; Attendance record of trainees and trainers, quality of training, feedback of/from trainees, class room environment/ maintenance & repairs. Attendance of trainees is 90-95% Reporting of District Supervisors to Manager Livelihood/Program Manager Monitoring by TEVTA teams as well Monitoring

48 Knowledge & skills is not reserved for favored few, but it should reach every section of the society. ITA has ensured admissions to students who are challenged (physical, speech and hearing).
