4 What is It?  Bullying is when a person is picked on over and over again by an individual or group with more power, either in terms of physical strength or social standing.  Two of the main reasons people are bullied are because of appearance and social status  What does this mean?

8 The Bullying Type  Both guys and girls can be bullies.  May be outgoing and aggressive.  Or appear reserved on the surface, but may try to manipulate people in subtle, deceptive ways, like anonymously starting a damaging rumor just to see what happens.  Many share common characteristics.  Dominate others and are generally focused on themselves.  They often have poor social skills and poor social judgment.  Sometimes they have no feelings of empathy or caring toward other people.  Most are just insecure

9 What to Do If You’re a Victim  Remember you’re not alone & it’s not permanent  Tell someone Support group to help self-esteem Document what’s happening & report to authority figure  Try to blend, avoid being isolated  Get active Join clubs, sports & activities  Learn verbal self-defense  Understand the facts Bullies may be using bullying as a defense mechanism  When they pick on you, they stop others from picking on them

Bystander Victim What to Do If You’re a Bystander  Refuse to join in  Distract the bully Use positive peer pressure with your friends “Come on…is that necessary?”  Report bullying  Speak out!!!! 11 What’s it Like?  PART 1: Life as a Bully Imagine you’re a bully by one or more of the types of bullying (verbal, physical, emotional, at school, cyber, etc.) Describe what you do and how you felt/feel, where and when it’s happening, how you feel doing every day activities, what are you trying to make that person feel like, why do you think you’re doing it, etc.  PART 2: Life as a Victim Imagine you’re being bullied by one or more of the types of bullying (verbal, physical, emotional, at school, cyber, etc.) Describe what was done to you how you felt/feel, where and when it’s happening, how you feel doing every day activities, what’s that person(s) trying to make you feel like, why do you think they’re doing it to you, etc. I WANT YOU TO PUT AS MUCH DESCRIPTION AS YOU CAN INTO WHAT IT MUST BE LIKED TO BE A BULLY! What’s your future like? Mental Physical Spiritual Emotional Social Be creative… but remember to keep it realistic and clean!
