He attended junior high school in the town of Rožňava in what is now Slovakia and in Miskolc in Hungary. After the revolution of 1848 he acted as a secretary with Samuel Reuss in Revúca and then he was a chaplain with Ján Chalupka in Brezno. In 1855 he changed this position and was working at the parish in Bystré for three years.
