2 First 100 Days Period of time where FDR passed through a series of programs and policies at the beginning of his first term as President. Purpose of theses reforms were to provide relief, create jobs, and stimulate economic recovery. Programs were developed from WWI programs and local programs developed by States at the beginning Great Depression.

3 First 100 Days Emergency Banking Act Banks closed for four days allowing Feds to examine. Glass-Steagall Banking Act of 1933 Federal Securities Act Provided info about their finances if offered stock for sale. SEC given power to regulate stock market. Federal Emergency Relief Administration Formed to send Federal funds to local relief agancies. Public Works Association Public funded projects to build public facilities. Civil Works Association employed unemployed on roads, etc.

4 First 100 Days Civilian Conservation Corps Employed more than 2.5 million at Nations parks, forests. Paid only $30 a month, but allowed to live free of charge on land, received food, medical care and training. Indian Restoration Act Outlawed sale of Indian lands begun by the Dawes Act in 1887. National Industrial Recovery Act Created to stabilize prices within the Industrial sector. NRA regulated wages, working conditions, production, prices and setting of a minimum wage.

5 First 100 Days Home Owners Loan Corporation Refinanced mortgages to make payments easier. National Housing Act of 1934 Established the FHA to improve housing conditions, insures mortgages, and stabilize the housing market. Agricultural Adjustment Administration Attempted to raise farm prices through subsidies paid by a new tax to not raise certain crops. Tennessee Valley Authority Provided cheap electric power, flood control and recreational opportunities to the Tennessee Valley Region.

6 2 nd New Deal Formed during the second 100 days. Created to answer critics that the New Deal did not address Americans concerns. Included social welfare, stricter controls over business, support for unions, and higher taxes on rich.

7 2 nd New Deal Works Progress Administration Provided 8 million jobs building airfields, playgrounds, schools and hospitals. Supported artists like Georgia O’Keefe Rural Electrification Administration Provided loans for electric companies to provide electricity to rural areas. By 1938, 98% of US farms had elec.

8 2 nd New Deal Wagner Act Legalized collective bargaining and closed shops (hiring only from union members). Outlawed spying on union activities and blacklisting (not hiring certain union leaders). Social Security Old Age Pensions and survivors benefits. Employers and employees paid into system to fund. Age 65 to collect benefits and did not cover farm workers. Unemployment Insurance. Employers with more than 8 employees funded this tax. Aid for dependent children, and disabled.
