Professional sportsmen  Advantages Money Encourages the athlete to perform to their highest level Provides a form of entertainment Being famous and having their name be out there (e.g. Alex Ovechkin, Syndey Crosby) Winning Games and being able to flaunt the teams name. 4  Disadvantages Injury may cause loss of job or lower income Losing Games may cause loss of fans Not many sports are very interesting to watch. Not all professional sports are aired on television, which makes it harder for fans to watch "their" teams play. As a professional athlete their personal lives may no longer be so "personal".

Amateur vs Professional sportsmen  What are the differences between amateurs and professionals? 5

Sporting events  Sports are more than just fun and games. From schoolyard chants to Super Bowl championships, playful competition finds its way into nearly all aspects of culture. Fighting to win draws on cooperation, concentration, coordination, and creativity— things worth striving for in their own right.  Why we care who wins, what drives us to go for the goal, and what leads to greatness on the playing field, on the chess board, or in the office? 6

Violence at sporting events Violences in sports involves crossing the line between fair competition and intentional aggressive violence. Athletes, coaches, fans, and parents sometimes unleash violent behaviour on people or property, in misguided shows of loyalty, dominance, anger, or celebration. Rioting or hooliganism are common and ongoing problems at national and international sporting contests. 7

Drugs vs Sportsmen  The competitive nature of sport encourages some participants to attempt to enhance their performance through the use of medicines, or through other means such as increasing the volume of blood in their bodies through artificial means.  All sports recognised by the IOC or SportAccord are required to implement a testing programme, looking for a list of banned drugs, with suspensions or bans being placed on participants who test positive for banned substances. 8

Most popular sport in the world At the top of the list is soccer with 3.3-3.5 billion fans all around the Europe, Africa, Asia, Americas, etc. 9  size of the field of play  size, weight and material of the ball  width between the goal posts and height of the crossbar from the ground  duration of the periods of play  Substitutions

Sports and Games popular with Slovaks  Many people in Slovakia like to watch ice-hockey, talk about football and comment on tennis.
