2 What is a CACT? The Centers for Applied Competitive Technologies, called CACT, are a network of workforce training and technical consulting Centers located throughout California’s community colleges that help advanced technology companies compete globally with leaner operational processes and a well trained workforce.

3 Modern Manufacturing Challenges Local and Global Competition Requirements to run leaner and quicker Less labor, More technology, Faster adoption Dwindling talent pool –Shortfall of technically skilled workers –Shortage of engineers –No more shop class!

4 CACT Workforce Training CACTs are dedicated to upgrading our workforce Because the CACTs are associated with the community colleges, we are able to tap into a wealth of subject matter experts Flexible and customized training –Flexible funding (private, ETP, grants) –High-tech skills and technologies –Workshops & seminars Entrepreneur's Conference –College credit and non-credit courses –Access to apprenticeships and internships Engineering apprenticeship starting at COC in Fall 2009 CSULA Engineering will join University Center
