3 Curtin University is a trademark of Curtin University of Technology CRICOS Provider Code 00301J Overview of Academic Promotion to Levels C, D and E Requirements for academic promotion You need to meet the qualification requirement:  PhD or equivalent qualification conferred by closing date OR  Significant expertise, standing and research or scholarship within the discipline and/or profession. This will normally only be considered where a PhD is not the usual expectation of the discipline  Before applying without a PhD, you must have the support of both your PVC/DVC and HOS to forward the application to the Committee  This support does not mean the individual assessment reports will fully recommend promotion Please contact the unit directly if considering applying for promotion without a PhD

4 Curtin University is a trademark of Curtin University of Technology CRICOS Provider Code 00301J Requirements for academic promotion You also need to meet 3 promotion criteria  Choose 3 criteria from choice of 4 – Teaching & Learning, Research/Creative Works, Leadership, Service  1 criterion to be assessed on:  High level of performance in duties of current level only  2 criteria to be assessed on:  High level of performance in duties of current level and  Satisfactory performance in duties of level above  1 of the criteria to be assessed at current level and above must be Teaching & Learning OR Research/Creative Works  Most staff should be able to meet 3 promotion criteria.  If the criteria do not apply to your position, you may apply for consideration for promotion by special case through the Academic Promotions Unit by the date specified for that round Overview of Academic Promotion to Levels C, D and E

7 Curtin University is a trademark of Curtin University of Technology CRICOS Provider Code 00301J eVALUate reports  You are expected to provide eVALUate reports if you:  Are addressing Teaching & Learning at any level; and  Have teaching or coordination duties  You select the reports to submit  See eVALUate website for how to interpret response rates  These reports will be accepted:  Teaching Evaluation Reports (TERs); and  Unit Summary Reports (USRs). 11 Curtin University is a trademark of Curtin University of Technology CRICOS Provider Code 00301J Choosing and contacting assessors  Choose carefully  Do your assessors know your work in the area you have asked them to assess?  Are they of an appropriate standing/knowledge base/experience to make a judgement?  Can they represent disciplinary/professional norms for the Committee and compare your work to these?  Make sure they are happy to provide an assessment by the due date  Give them what they need to make an assessment  Send them a copy of your application with the assessor report by the date specified for that round  Provide them with evidence e.g. course materials, research papers, awards, evaluations Overview of Academic Promotion to Levels C, D and E
