Yolimar’s Book of Art By Yolimar De Leon Spring 2012

2 Dedication I dedicate this to my mom who inspires me to do art each day.

3 By Yolimar De Leon Beltran
Personal Poem By Yolimar De Leon Beltran I am Yolimar De Leon Beltran. My friends call me Yoli because it’ easier for them to say. My real name is dangerous flower of the sea. I think it kind of fits, since I like flowers and the sea. Dangerous stuff is my favorite topic because it’s exciting. The animal inside of me is a wolf. I’m strong and passionate, and I like to stay in groups. But sometimes I have to fend for myself. The object inside of me is a rose. It's beautiful and frail, but also tough and strong. A word that’s written on my forehead is ‘sensitive’ because I feel things stronger than others. A sound I love is Coqies singing. A sound I hate is shrieking.

4 A smell I love is roses in the bloom of spring
A smell I love is roses in the bloom of spring. A smell I hate is garbage. My favorite time of day is the afternoon because it’s sunny and it’s lunchtime! If my hands could speak they would say,” Do some more art!” A memory I remember from my childhood is that I threw my sister’s pony up the roof with my cousin. A phrase my family often say to me is “Nina!”

5 Couplet By Yolimar De Leon MARY ANNE LOU Mary Anne Lou was a beloved soul She was as jumpy as a toad. Her death was a tragedy and very suffering She drowned while she was swimming. Her funeral was held in a gloomy room Who knew she swam to her doom?

6 Quatrain By Yolimar De Leon LOVE Love is learning to live your life apart While it’s smiling at you from a person’s heart. It’s unknown how powerful it can be Or if it can overpower you completely. The feeling is wonderful like a sweet summer breeze You get really happy and full with glee. As it’s smiling down at you What could you do? It’s like coqies making a song Or birds singing Crickets chirping A mom saying, “ I love you” all along Your family and friends And loved ones too All have the same feeling While they’re looking down at you

7 Haiku By Yolimar De Leon FOREST IN THE MOONLIGHT Owls fly everywhere Water shimmers with fish scales Darkness fills the air

8 Limerick By LAMB WITH BROKEN BONES There once was a girl named Gadan That once went went BOOM into a lamb It broke all it’s bones Then called some smaller gnomes Now she rests inside a small dam

9 Ballad By Yolimar De Leon I DON’T KNOW HOW IT HAPPENED There were happy times before this happened Playing games that were really lame Laughing and singing all day But now it’s just isn’t the same I don’t know how it happened But I can conclude That the only one who knows Is you Sitting in my seat watching that big brown box Everyone is crying even mom but I don’t know why She was so mad and sad that she cried on my dad So I cried and gave I sigh

10 About the Author Yolimar De Leon lives in Sterling, Virginia. She was born in Humacao, Puerto Rico. She started writing poems recently and her inspiration is her great-grandmother because she was a poet.

An apple is in my heart a hard good looking outside but a sweet inside just like me. The word focus is written on my forehead because as anyone can see I'm not the most focused kid in the world. I love the sound of music and the sound of people laughing. I hate the sound of people yelling at each other. My favorite smell is chocolate and vanilla ice cream I tastes so good and I eat them on any special occasions. My favorite type of day is late at Night because I am not a big fan of the morning. If my hands could speak they would say try again because I have the ability to do something but I decide to do it the least favorable way. One of my favorite memories is when I landed my first kickflip I can still remember how the adrenaline rush. My moms number one rules is a good or positive attitude. She always attitude is what make up a person’s value and how other people think of them.

14 Couplet Before I was up to bat coach told me something To throw the game like a basketball throw by J-ling. So I see the ball so I swing I start to run when I herd that “bing!!” We won but the coach felt a sting It was until he fell that’s when I knew I lost his ring.

15 Quatrain I was walking on the street I see a tall man He looks at my feet He puts me in his silent van He says were going to Japan He ties me up and leaves me So I look around I found something on the ground He comes back with a kid I beat the man with pan So me and the kid ran We hid We went to a cop They saw the man and yelled stop We went home And I wasn’t alone

16 Glimmering hive Mother Nature’s winged beast Aerodynamic
Haiku By Jad Raqi Glimmering hive Mother Nature’s winged beast Aerodynamic

17 Limerick There was a ruler named Jad Who was very cool maybe bad AHHHHH he couldn’t stop whining He wasn’t all that shining Now he wasn’t so sad and mad.

18 Ballad I remember I got deployed I was stuck with Stone I see civilians dying But I was glad I wasn’t alone War breaks out We scream and shout When that shot fired something was wrong But the soldier next to me was out Stone was down I was up I was stunned in fear He was bleeding out I tried to stop it But his pulse was gone, down came a signal tear And Stone was out

19 About the Author Well I have a little piece of my self in each poem I feel like I'm winning a Grammy but anyway I the topic’s for every poem came from stuff I think about or I do in life and the Ballad is my favorite because I like the theme so much that I had to make it my best and that’s pretty much it.

101 Personal Poem By Josie Roberts I am Josie Roberts my friends call me the z-girl because they pronounce my name with a z. My real name is Josephine. Because that is what my mom wanted a baby girl named Josephine since she was a little girl. The animal inside me is a dolphin. Dolphins like to play all day and when they get serious they aren’t playing around anymore. That’s how I am all the time. A daisy is in my heart. I am very colorful and I love to make people smile when they see me. On my forehead would be “protective” because I am protective of my friends and family. If you hurt them you might get a broken leg. I love the sound of the ocean ,and I hate the sound of nails on a chalk board.

102 I love the smell of vanilla ,and I hate the smell of skunk stink
I love the smell of vanilla ,and I hate the smell of skunk stink. My favorite time of the day is noon, because it is sunny and very beautiful. If my hands could speak they would say take every second of life as a gift because life is very precious. From my childhood I remember that every time I wrote a j it was always backwards. My mom says to me “save the best for last” because I always take the best and leave the worst even more worse.

103 Couplet By Josie Roberts The Tragedy All of the petals have floated away I see The last petal was like a nightmare for me. I felt the hot tears running down my check Was this really right, I am starting to freak. Creaking sounds in the back around, lots of vain. The thorns in my hands make me regret the pain.

104 Quatrain By Josie Roberts Christmas Time Again It’s chilly outside and my lips are cold I smell cinnamon rolls in the oven, good Today is the day we all get presents, at least we should. I feel happy I think everyone should be bold. There is white snow on the ground. Everyone has happy expressions on their face. I hear sleigh bells moving downstairs one whole pound. Now I have to get up and embrace. Santa Claus was here the night before I remember hearing the sleigh bells singing the cold air. My dad is recording us walking down the stairs Under the tree there is 1,000 presents. After they are all unwrapped and revealed, We run to the chimney to see our stockings like toppings. They are so heavy they are on the floor Santa left some food droppings.

105 Haiku By Josie Roberts Sunshine Boiling all my skin Cloudless sky ,just tall grass Bright beautiful sun

106 Limerick By Josie Roberts Delicious Ham There once was a town named Cam That was known for oink, oink good ham It was going all right Then there was a fight Now they all say Rad Sam

107 Ballad Heartbreak We are in love. My friends are telling me
By Josie Roberts Heartbreak We are in love. My friends are telling me That you are going to break my heart. I didn’t believe them, but that’s when I couldn’t see. This is for lying and breaking my heart in pieces. My friends were right when I believed you . I thought you would be the one But I guess I was wrong about that one too. Then that day I looked in your eyes I could see our story was ending. The moment I realized I was devastated Now I know you were just pretending. My friends were right when I believed you. How can you do this to me. I just can’t let you off the hook. Me and my friends have told all the girls about you. Now I can take back the life you took!

109 Poets’ Corner By Sandy Shafik Spring 2012

110 Dedication To my mom for all ways encouraging me and helping me to be the best I can be.

111 Personal Poem By Sandy Shafik I’m Sandy. Sometimes people mix up my name so apparently to some I’m Samantha. I just don’t have the heart to tell them that’s not my name. My real name is creative. Some people think that if your left handed you are more creative but I don’t think so. I always felt I have an eye for creativity. I think it fits. The animal in me is a Eagle. They soar in the sky effortlessly. They have freedom. They can go any where they want and with nothing holding them back. An object in my heart is would be a smiling heart. It would be that because the smile represents a positive out look on life. The heart represents caring about and helping others. Some thing that would be written on my forehead would be persistence. Because for me with out persistence I wouldn’t get anywhere. Persistence is how I achieve what I achieve.

112 The sound I love is the sound of music all types of it music can express who you are and what your cause is. The sounds I hate are the sounds of someone constantly tapping their pencil and the sound of gossip. My favorite smell is the smell of vanilla because vanilla is light and never over powering. The way I like it. My favorite time of day is early morning summer because of the nice cool breezes and the bright sun. I also like spring afternoons because of the sweet smell of flowers, the song of the chirping birds, and the warm inviting sun. If my hands could talk they would tell my teachers to give me a break. With all the tests, quizzes, schoolwork, and homework they need a serious break. Something I remember from my childhood is my trip to Sweden and Italy. Sweden was a frozen ice land where everyone spoke gibberish. Italy was boiling hot still with a bunch of gibberish. Things my dad tells me is a bunch of long and I mean long speeches about life.

113 Couplet By Sandy Shafik The bright warm sun on my skin felt like a quilt For this weather I was built. I walked on the warm sand And carefully felt it with my hand The powerful smell of the salt from the ocean Made me jolt up with a quick swift motion.

114 Quatrain By Sandy shafik I love springs beautiful and colorful blooming flowers But soon their smell grew with an intense power. The days were sunny and bright but I love those nice, cool starry nights. Winters cold oh how I hate it Why would anyone or thing choose to make it? Ahh but hot chocolate so dear so sweet Oh no its gone its gone I cry I weep. Summer is certainly no glummer Oh how I just love summer The pool so nice and cool and to think no more school! Crunch, crunch I hear the leaves Crunch, crunch they whisper to me why won’t they leave? Crunch, crunch what a bummer Crunch, crunch really! I just want summer!

115 Haiku By Sandy Shafik Lady bug red with spots Slowly walks in the cool spring breeze Through the dark green grass.

116 Limerick By Sandy Shafik There once was a cow named moomoo Who had to eat in his own Lou! He had a ton of hair Then he said “It’s not fair.” Now he yells “This day you will rue!”

117 Ballad By Sandy Shafik Standing on the launch pad Run to get supplies Dodge other tributes See the others die before my eyes Survive, survive that’s what I must do Survive, survive to win Survive, survive just me not her nor him Peeta the boy from my district He and I became friends He was sick and had a cut leg We both promised he and I will do this together till the very- end Survive, survive that’s what we must do Survive, survive not going to be a piece of cake Survive, survive just me and him They changed the rules once again only one winner I took out the poisoned berries and we braced our- selves for the end This was it no more hunger games for us I took one last look at Peeta my smiling friend The announcer man yells “congratulations to our 74th- annual huger games winners!” The cool after noon air fills with laughter and relief We went to the ship Peeta needed surgery for his cut leg After the surgery I was told he was okay and for a very short- brief moment it was a happily ever after

118 About the Author Sandy is 11 years old and use to live in Moreno Valley California and then move to Fairfax Virginia then to Sterling Virginia . She likes to read, write, and act in her free time. She lives with her brother, sister , and parents

They smell really sweet. I hate the smell of rust. It makes me feel uncomfortable. I love when it’s night time. It’s the time of relaxation and watching T.V. also to get some rest. If my hands could speak they would probably say enjoy life because life doesn't last forever. So live life at the fullest and have fun. I remember when I was young me singing on my microphone pretending I was a big pop star. I would have so much fun. But, I also remember me playing with my baby doll “Nancy”. I would feed her change her diaper and ride my bike with her. I always took her to every single place I ever went to. My parents always say to me always have manners where ever you go to. And, respect adults but most of all they say don’t talk to strangers. My parents still say this to me now.

133 Couplet By: Leslie Munoz The bright big sun is beating down on my face The opponent team plays with a lot of grace Outside was as hot as the sun But that didn’t stop my team I we still won Our coaches were so happy they cried of victory But the next time we play is still a mystery

134 Quatrain By : Leslie Munoz What did I do wrong? I couldn’t see anything besides the bright big sun frowning at me, the rest was white The beating was long I fell three times by the night I wake up and I’m inside a box I'm trapped All around the box there were locks I finally realized that I’m kidnapped! I’m locked inside I can’t hear anything, but while I’m inside I find a bill But then I hear the chirping of birds outside Then I read the bill and with big red bolded letters it said “KILL” And that’s all I remember What happens to me is still a mystery I was born on the 23rd of March 1997 till the 17th of November And the person who did this to me is probably laughing of victory

138 Ballad By : Leslie Munoz Continued
But I will never forget what I said “how could you do this to me “You were the best part of my life” I felt like such a fool because I thought he was cool It felt like a stab in my back by a knife The moon started to fade I fell and never got up I was so sad and depressed That I died and felt like a dump
