1 College & Career Sunday School Class Rivermont Presbyterian Church P. Ribeiro 1 Feb. 8, 98 We Have No ‘Right to Happiness’, C.S. Lewis March 8, 1998 (This was the last thing Lewis wrote for publication. It appeared shortly after his death in The Saturday Evening Post, vol. CCXXXVI - 21-28 December 1963) pp. 10,12) Questions for Discussion 1 - Don’t we have a right to the pursuit of happiness? 2 - What is wrong with Mr.. A and Mrs. B.? 3 - When do we start taking the steps to guarantee a lasting and happy married life? 4 - Why do people given up so easily to the pressures of sexual impulses? 5 - Why are women at double disadvantage in today's society? 6 - What does the Bible say about the proper sexual behavior? 7 - Can one date an unbeliever? Topics for Debate Sexual Happiness = Sexual Impulse ? Society Double Morality: Right and Wrong Way To Cheat (General Morality x Sexual Morality) Men Are From Mars - Women Are From Venus (Be Aware Of It) Happiness: A Right or Privilege? Married Life: Heaven or Hell? Morality Is Necessary, But Not Sufficient! Finding The Right Spouse (Envious of Jesus)? *Marry Because We Love - Love Because We Are Married! *Let us make a covenant of faithfulness! Then, we’ll enjoy not just happiness, but everlasting Shalom! When two people achieve lasting happiness, this is not solely because they are great lovers but because they are also - I must put it crudely - good people; controlled, loyal, fair-minded, mutually adaptable people. What does the Bible Say? (I Co. 6:20, I Sam. 16:7, Gen. 2:18-21-24)

Ribeiro 2 Feb. 8, 98 Our Pedagogical Method - Take Ownership It often happens that two students can solve difficulties in their work for one another better than the master can. When you took the problem to a master, as we all remember, he was likely to explain what you understood already, to add a great deal of information which you didn’t want, and say nothing at all about the thing which was puzzling you. I have watched this from both sides of the net; for when, as a teacher myself, I have tried to answer questions brought to me by pupils, I have sometimes, after a minute, seen that expression settle down on their faces which assured me that they were suffering exactly the same frustration which I had suffered from my own teachers. The fellow student can help more than the master because he knows less. The difficulty we want him to explain is one that he has recently met. The expert met it so long ago that he has forgotten. He sees the whole subject, by now, in such a different light that he cannot conceive what is really troubling the student; he sees a dozen other difficulties which ought to be troubling him but aren’t. C.S.L. The Right Wife For a good wife contains so many persons in herself. What was H (Joy) not to me? She was my daughter and my mother, my pupil and my teacher, my subject and my sovereign; and always, holding all these in solution, my trusty comrade, friend, shipmate, fellow-soldier. My mistress; but at the same time all that any man friend (and I have good one) has ever been to me. Perhaps more... Solomon calls his bride Sister. Could a woman be a complete wife unless, for a moment, in one particular mood, a man felt almost inclined to call her Brother? C.S.L.
