What is a Network? Two or more computers linked together

Different Types of Computer Networks Local-area networks (LANs) Wide-area networks (WANs) Campus-area networks (CANs) Metropolitan-area networks (MANs) Home-area networks (HANs)

OUNet Here at OU we have a Campus Area Network (C.A.N.) called OUNet

OUNet and several Local Area Networks (L.A.N.) Here at OU have a Campus Area Network (C.A.N.) called OUNet

What is an OUNet Account? Information Technology provides all students with a user account on OUNet.

To access your OUNet account, you will need to know your OUNet ID or username (often referred to as your "4 by 4 or 4+4"). Your OUNet ID is made up of the first 4 letters of your last name (lowercase) + the last 4 digits of your 9-digit OU student ID number. So, for example, if your last name is Sooner and your 9-digit OU ID number is 123-45-6789, then your OUNetID is: soon6789. NOTE: If you have placed a Directory hold on your personal information so that it is not publicly available, you will also be assigned an OUNetID that is not based on your name or OU ID number. What is my OUNet ID?

What is my OUNet Password? Selecting your OUNet password  When your OUNet account is first created, you are assigned a default password. The default password is based on the word “pass” and your birthday: "pass" plus 2 digits for the month and 2 digits for the day of your birth. So, if your birthday is on October 9, your default password is pass1009. Some services will not work with this default  It is very important that you choose a new password as soon as possible. There are some essential computer services that are not accessible if you do not change the password from this default value; if you are using the default password (pass####), you will not be able to access these services.

How Do I Change My OUNet Password? Choose a password that is between 5 and 8 characters long. Your password can consist of only letters and numbers. When you are ready, open a web browser and go to http://account.ou.edu http://account.ou.edu
