REvitalizing networks and New Emphasis in Transfer: preventing and facing early school leaving by sharing solutions and tools 1st Transnational Workshop Rome, 18 th -19 th March 2010 WORKPROGRAMME APPROVED

The Project starting date is the 01/10/2009 The Project closing date is the 30/09/2011 PROJECT TIMING

RENET focuses on educational interventions implying the creation of teaching and transferring environments and contexts fostering actions different and integrative with respect to the scholastic and “traditional” ones (as counselling for example), since they represent the best strategies when coping with YOUNG unease, apt to support the reintegration of subjects dropped out of compulsory education and training. However, these actions, in general are fragmentary and not sufficiently valorised and divulged. Their main characteristic is to be developed within complex relational contexts, involving different actors and promoting territorial and local networks. The aim of RENET project is to valorise the existing networks linking subjects that share the objective of coping with the school abandon phenomenon, providing them with tools and procedures that proved to be efficient and innovative. In particular, within the “Resource Centres Network” (140 Schools on 6 different Regions), activated and implemented during 2000-2006 (ESF), are traceable experiences and practices facing the problem of school abandon and failure, and nevertheless there is still a lack of visibility and, consequently, problems of transfer and exploitation of solutions, linger on.

RENET answers to this evident difficulty, following two main lines: 1.to verify the training needs of the Schools, related to competences of network building and maintaining and, so, to provide them with didactic tools and devices aimed at transferring the specific “missing” competences; 2.to transfer to Schools a tool functional to collect, record, manage, organise and disseminate knowledge and information related to current practices and experiences, stressing the related potential copy strategy. From a technological point of view, the solution has been identified in a Vertical Thematic Portal, following a Model already tested within a LdV pilot project, transferable and adaptable with reduced costs and timings.

WP 2NEEDS ANALYSIS ADDRESSED TO SCHOOLS LASTING5 MONTHS FROM1/10/2009 TO28/02/2010 PACKAGE LEADERSS TONIOLO

WORK PACKAGE AIMS To start up the process of self-evaluation by the side of the Schools, so as to identify the training needs related to the competences implied in the network building and maintaining.

DESCRIPTION OF ACTIVITIES The background hypothesis of the survey is that it is necessary to strengthen the existing Network of Schools, by starting from the identification and valorisation of the role of teachers and school directors representing the education subjects constituting the network itself. In fact, to efficaciously implement actions aimed at exchanging practises focused on school leaving prevention and to start up processes of cooperation and of shared learning, neither motivation and enthusiasm neither periodical evaluations and analysis are sufficient.

DESCRIPTION OF ACTIVTIES The core of this workpackage is to promote and foster a process of self-evaluation by the side of the Schools involved in the Network implemented. The self-evaluation, realised by the use of a questionnaire, will concern the competences held by Schools in network building and maintaining. The focus of the needs analysis will be to distinguish on one side the critical aspects related to human resources’ (personnel) competences and, on the other, the critical aspects related to the infrastructures available.

METHODOLOGICAL FRAMEWORK The questionnaires will be distributed (via e-mail) by each School involved in the Network of School in Italy (the network implies 140 Schools located in 6 different Regions). Referring to the key issues provided in the questionnaire, VISC (LV) and Polydinamo (GR) will realise at least 3-5 interviews – de visu – by an equal number of Schools (in Latvia) and enterprises (in Greece). The outcomes will be analysed in a Comparative transnational report implying indications and recommendations on which will be based the activities planned in WP 4.

WP 3ADAPTING OF THE VORTAL AND ENGENEERING OF FPT AREA LASTING4 MONTHS FROM1/02/2010 TO31/05/2010 PACKAGE LEADERCONTEXT

WORK PACKAGE AIMS To adapt the Portal implemented during ONCE AGAINST ABANDON project, in terms of graphic layout, research functions and language, in order to implement the Renet Vortal that will be the object of the final transfer.

DESCRIPTION OF ACTIVTIES The ONCE AGAINST ABANDON Portal, represents the prototype that must be adapted and integrated to implement, progressively, the final version of the tool that will represent the main object of transfer during Renet project: the Vortal. The Vortal – as thematic vertical Portal – must be realised so as to be not only a tool and a database, but: - it must be organised so as to stimulate users to cooperate in the data feeding (upload); - it must to provide detailed and organised information on the outcomes achieved by each practice described, including the ones related to aspects as sustainability and transferability. Further, the Vortal must be engineered so as to represent a virtual meeting space for the exchange of information, among the network members.

METHODOLOGICAL FRAMEWORK The process of implementation of the Vortal will involve mainly teachers, experts and researchers related to the SS TONIOLO and Context Association. It is strictly connected to the activities described in WP 6. In order to plan and implement the Vortal structure, it will be necessary to analyse the good practices realised by the Schools involved in the Italian Network, so as the ones eventually identified on Greek and Latvian context. To the aim, will be worked out a grid format to be sent to all Schools, aimed at collecting general and specific information on the experiences that will have to be uploaded in the Renet Vortal. This analysis will be necessary to design the general structure of the Vortal and the related specific sections that will have to be included, starting from the Model proposed by Once Against Portal.

METHODOLOGICAL FRAMEWORK The information collected and analysed will constitute the base on which propose and plan the beta version of the Vortal. It will be validated by all partners and consequently engineered and published on line. The beta version will be then tested with the cooperation of project direct beneficiaries (Schools). This testing phase foresees the uploading and publishing on the Vortal of at least 2 main good practices implemented n Italy. This testing will be useful to verify the technical and communicative functionality of the Vortal. After the testing, will be realised the eventual changes and the final version will be published on line on the Public area of the project website.

WP 4COURSEWARE ON COMPETENCES OF NETWORK BUILDING AND MAINTAINING LASTING6 MONTHS FROM1/04/2010 TO30/09/2010 PACKAGE LEADERCONTEXT - ISEC - POLYDINAMO

WORK PACKAGE AIMS To work out a self-training courseware articulated in Modules and Units. The contents might be focused, for example, on: internal and external communication, management of relationships and work teams, shared learning and shared planning.

DESCRIPTION OF ACTIVTIES On the base of the outcomes of the survey realised (WP2) will be identified the most relevant training needs with respect to which will be planned, designed and developed the training contents. By using a Content Management System (CSM) for the management and organisation of training and informative contents, through the Vortal, users will be able to access the coursewares provided on line. The meta-objective, in fact, is the one of increasing and strengthening the interest and participation of the members of the Network, using the main product realised by the project (the Vortal itself). In this action the Greek and Latvian partners will be involved also in the production of the didactic contents.

METHODOLOGICAL FRAMEWORK Self-learning coursewares will be designed, managed and provided by means of a Content Management System (CMS). The main feature of this system is its high versatility, since contents can be easily uploaded and updated. Each school will be able to access contents directly on line, just enetring the Vortal.

EXPECTED OUTCOMES/OUTPUTS COURSEWARE ON NETWORK BUILDING AND MAINTAINING (IT/EN)

ROLES AND TASK PER PARTNER P0 SS TONIOLO (IT) Validation of the courseware structure and related didactic contents worked out P1 CONTEXT ASSOCIATION (IT) Planning the courseware structure proposal Editing of specific didactic contents Planning and engineering the CMS to support the courseware Technical assistance to the CMS use P2 POLYDINAMO (GR) Validation of the courseware structure Editing of specific didactic contents (management of internal and external communication) P3 VISC (LV) Validation of the courseware structure Editing of specific didactic contents

WP 5LABORATORIES – TRAINING AT FTP USE LASTING4 MONTHS FROM1/10/2010 TO31/01/2011 PACKAGE LEADERTONIOLO - CONTEXT

WORK PACKAGE AIMS To transfer the competences in the use of the FTP (File Transfer Protocol) to teachers and school directors of the Schools Network.

DESCRIPTION OF ACTIVTIES The real relevance and meaning of the Vortal – chosen as the main RENET Product – is that it must be continuously fed and implemented so as to represent a database of in development experiences. The main actors of this in progress updating and development, must be the members of the Network, whose task will be to upload contents and materials related to the experimentations and activities they have realised and tested. To the purpose, the Vortal will be implemented so as to allow users to enter and use it without external help. Using a ID and a PW, each member will be able to register, publish and download materials of different formats: Video and audio files, doc, ppt, JPG, etc.

METHODOLOGICAL FRAMEWORK There will be organised at least 5 Laboratories, in Italy, addressed to teachers and head teachers of the Schools involved in the Network. The Labs will be articulated in two main sessions: - the first will be of technical-theorical nature, focused on the working and functions of the FTP Area; -the second will be focused on the use of the FTP Area. Within each Lab, participants will have to upload in the Vortal, using the FTP Area, at least two good practices. In this way, not only they will learn how to use this device, but will cooperate in the feeding of the Vortal (10 italian good practices in total will be uploaded). In the mean time, Latvian and Greek partners will have to upload in the Vortal at least 3 good practices each, identified on local context (total 6).

METHODOLOGICAL FRAMEWORK For each Lab will have to participate not less than 20-25 persons, representing 20- 25 Schools. Labs will be realised in 5 of the 6 Italian regions involved in the Network (Basilicata and Campania will be unified in the same Lab). It is obvious that the venue where to realise the Labs must be chosen focusing on the IT equipment available (it is advisable for each region, to choose a School equipped with a good lab of Informatics). All Labs will be realised by Context members and will last at least 2 days each (8 hours per day).

EXPECTED OUTCOMES/OUTPUTS DATABASE ON GOOD PRACTICES AND EXPERIENCES AIMED AT PREVENTING OR COPING WITH SCHOOL LEAVING 10 ITALIAN GOOD PRACTICES (IT-EN) 3 LATVIAN GOOD PRACTICES (IT-EN) - 3 GREEK GOOD PRACTICES (IT-EN)

WP 6COLLECTION AND PUBLICATION OF GOOD PRACTICES LASTING12 MONTHS FROM1/09/2010 TO31/08/2011 PACKAGE LEADERSS TONIOLO

WORK PACKAGE AIMS To increase the number of good practices recorded and uploaded in the Vortal and to foster the use of the Vortal as a community of practices and cooperative learning.

DESCRIPTION OF ACTIVTIES Realisation of planned and periodical activities aimed at fostering the use of the Vortal by the Schools, in particular: Mailing lists to all users registered in the Vortal; Communications via web (Forum and chat through Vortal); Recalls by telephone. Another channel that will be used in the project is the VOIP phone system of Skype. Each school member of the Network will have to register its own skype account and will be given of Skype telephones. By using this system, the network members will be able to communicate on line via internet, exchange files, realise chats and conference calls.

METHODOLOGICAL FRAMEWORK The skype telephones given to schools will be identified with the project Logo, in order not only to connect them to the project and to the system proposed but also to foster the use of functional and current IT solutions.
