3 The first solid state electronic calculator was created in the 1960s, building on the history of tools such as the abacus, developed around 2000 BC; and the mechanical calculator, developed in the 17th century. It was developed in parallel with the analog computer of the day. Pocket-sized devices become available in the 1970s, especially after the invention of the microprocessor developed serendipitously by Intel for a Busicom calculator.

4 The calculator is a large button calculator approximately 21cm high by 16cm wide. There are 29 buttons. The contrast of the labels on all the buttons is very good. All the characters are white and the backgrounds are various dark colors. The number pad buttons are dark gray-brown, most of the functions buttons are a slightly lighter but still dark gray-brown, the subtraction key is bright red, and the ON/AC and C/CE buttons are blue. Additionally, the numbers are large. The number pad buttons are 1.4 cm high by 1.6 cm wide and a dark gray-brown. The characters on the button are approximately 0.8 cm high or 60% of the button height. The single character width is approximately 0.5 cm or 30% of button width. The main characters also have a 1 mm stroke width. Most of the other buttons have similar height, width and stroke width measurements.. Finally, the typeface of the characters is a very simple sans serif typeface.
