If a student’s designated supports and accommodations information is incorrect, it must be updated in TOMS before he or she tests If you find a discrepancy between a students’ IEP plan/504 plan and the settings applied in TOMS, the TA (you) will contact the Test Site Coordinator immediately to have the TSC make the adjustment. Once modified, the student must wait to test for 24 hours to allow the support/accommodation to be applied.

19 2015 CAASPP Online Test Administration Workshop 19 Establishing Appropriate Testing Conditions Testing students in classroom-sized groups is preferable –Reduces test fear and anxiety –Facilitates monitoring and control for TAs Room should have good lighting, ventilation, and freedom from noise and interruptions Remove or cover displayed information (on bulletin boards, chalkboards, or dry-erase boards, etc.) that might be used by students to help answer questions –Rubrics, vocabulary charts, student work, posters, graphs, charts, etc.

27 2015 CAASPP Online Test Administration Workshop 27 Distributing Student Logon Information TAs need to provide students with the Session ID, the student’s Statewide Student Identifier (SSID), and confirmation code (student first name in CALPADS) for logon −Use SSID cards provided by Student Assessment −TAs may write the Session ID on a board or where students can see it Important: Student personal information is secure and must be collected and securely stored at the end of a test session, then securely destroyed at the end of the test administration.

42 2015 CAASPP Online Test Administration Workshop 42 General Pause Rules If there is a technical issue (e.g., power outage or network failure), students will be logged out and the tests will automatically be paused If a test is paused, the student must log in again to resume testing Highlighted text and global notes will not be preserved

43 2015 CAASPP Online Test Administration Workshop 43 Pause Rules: Computer Adaptive Test If a CAT is paused for more than 20 minutes, the student is: −Presented with the test page containing the test item he or she was last working on (if the page contains at least 1 unanswered item) OR −Presented with the next test page (if all items on the previous test page were answered) −Not permitted to review or change any test items on previous test pages If a CAT is paused for less than 20 minutes, the student is: –Presented with the test item or passage he or she was working on when the test was paused –Permitted to answer previously shown items within a segment

44 2015 CAASPP Online Test Administration Workshop 44 Pause Rules: Performance Task There are no pause rules for PTs −Even if a PT is paused for more than 20 minutes, the student can return to the current section and continue ELA PTs are divided into two parts −After a student completes the first part, he or she cannot return to it

45 2015 CAASPP Online Test Administration Workshop 45 Test Timeout Due to Inactivity As a security measure, students and TAs are automatically logged out of the test after 30 minutes of inactivity Activity means: −Selecting an answer −Using a navigation option in the test (e.g., selecting [Next] or [Back], using the Questions drop-down list) −Note: Moving the mouse or selecting an empty space on the screen is not considered activity Before the system logs out, a warning message will be displayed

46 WARNING Caution: As a security measure, TAs are automatically logged off the TA Interface after 30 minutes of user inactivity in the online session, regardless of whether or not the TA is actively monitoring the test session away from his or her computer. The inactivity will result in the closing of the test session.

47 2015 CAASPP Online Test Administration Workshop 47 Stopping an Entire Test Session TAs can stop a test session (and therefore pause tests for all students in the session) –Select the [Stop Session] button in the upper-left corner of the TA Interface –An “Important!” box will appear, requesting verification to end the session and log students out –Select [OK] to continue or [Cancel] to keep the test session open

53 2015 CAASPP Online Test Administration Workshop 53 Classroom Activity Administration Guidelines Purpose: To provide students with important context, concepts, and key terms prior to taking the PT All students will have a classroom activity before they complete a PT May be administered in a classroom or any other appropriate space Recommended: –ELA Classroom Activity should take place on a separate day from the PT –No more than a one to two (1-2) day lapse between the classroom activity and the PT administration

58 2015 CAASPP Online Test Administration Workshop 58 All secure test materials must be handled and stored securely. −For paper-pencil tests, lock in secure storage with limited access; count test booklets before and after a testing session; and train staff on the procedures. −For computer-based tests; lock any printed rosters, SSID cards, PT scratch paper, in secure storage with limited access; train staff on procedures. The use of unauthorized electronic devices (e.g., cell phones) in the testing session is prohibited. Seat students so that they cannot easily view each other's work. General Test Security Guidelines

64 2015 CAASPP Online Test Administration Workshop 64 Before and During Testing All test items and test materials must remain secure and must be appropriately handled. –Includes creating a secure testing environment for what students can see, hear, or access The TA is ultimately responsible for monitoring and reporting test security issues. –Inappropriate Internet access –Any other improper display, printing, photographing, duplicating, or sharing of test questions

65 2015 CAASPP Online Test Administration Workshop 65 As Testing Starts and During Testing Ensure that students have properly logged on and are taking the test for which they are scheduled. Monitor students taking the test for any breach of the secure browser and that it has not allowed students to access external sites or other resources on their testing device during the assessment.

66 2015 CAASPP Online Test Administration Workshop 66 Student login (SSID card) information is considered secure material, so it must be provided to, and viewable only by, the student to whom the login information pertains. Student login information (SSID cards) must be returned to the CAASPP Test Site Coordinator, stored in a secure location between testing sessions, and securely destroyed immediately after testing. “(A) I will keep all assigned, generated, or created usernames, passwords and logins secure and not divulge pupil personal information to anyone other than the pupil to whom the information pertains for the purpose of logging on to the assessment delivery system.” CAASPP TEST SECURITY AFFIDAVIT “(4) I will securely destroy all print-on-demand papers, scratch paper, and other documents as prescribed within the contractor’s(s’) or consortium’s administrative manuals and documentation.” CAASPP TEST SECURITY AGREEMENT Student Login for the Computer- based Tests

82 2015 CAASPP Online Test Administration Workshop 82 Test Security Chart—Irregularity Severity & Potential Effect Types of Issues MEDIUM Irregularity Student(s) cheating or providing answers to each other, including passing notes, giving help to other students during testing, or using hand-held electronic devices to exchange information. Student(s) accessing the Internet or any unauthorized software or applications during a testing event. Student(s) accessing or using unauthorized electronic equipment (e.g., cell phones, PDAs, iPods, or electronic translators) during testing. Disruptions to a test session such as a fire drill, school-wide power outage, earthquake, or other acts. Administrator or Coordinator failing to ensure administration and supervision of the Smarter Balanced assessments by qualified, trained personnel. Administrator giving incorrect instructions that are not corrected prior to testing. Administrator or teacher failing to present Classroom Activity prior to performance task administration. Administrator or Coordinator giving out his or her username/password (via e-mail or otherwise) to other authorized users. Administrator allowing students to continue testing beyond the close of the testing window. Administrator or teacher coaching or providing any other type of assistance to students that may affect their responses. This includes both verbal cues (e.g., interpreting, explaining, or paraphrasing the test items or prompts) and nonverbal cues (e.g., voice inflection, pointing, or nodding head) to the correct answer. This also includes leading students through instructional strategies such as think-aloud, asking students to point to the correct answer or otherwise identify the source of their answer, or requiring students to show their work. Administrator providing students with nonallowable materials or devices during test administration or allowing inappropriate designated supports and/or accommodations during test administration. Administrator allowing anyone other than a student to log on to the test unless prescribed as an allowable accommodation in the student’s individualized education program (IEP). This includes Test Administrators (TAs) or other staff using student information to log on or allowing a student to log on using another student’s information. Administrator providing a student access to another student’s work/responses.

83 2015 CAASPP Online Test Administration Workshop 83 Test Security Chart—Breach Severity & Potential Effect Types of Issues HIGH BREACH Administrator or Coordinator modifying student responses or records at any time. The live Student Interface or TA Interface being used for practice instead of the Training or Practice Tests. Adult or student posting items or test materials on social media (e.g., Twitter, Facebook, etc.). Administrator allowing students to take home printed test items, reading passages, writing prompts, or scratch paper that was used during the test or failing to otherwise securely store test materials. Adult or student copying, discussing, or otherwise retaining test items, stimuli, reading passages, writing prompts, or answers for any reason. This includes the use of photocopiers or digital, electronic, or manual devices to record or communicate a test item. This also includes using secure test items, modified secure test items, reading passages, writing prompts, or answer keys for instructional purposes. Secure test materials being shared with the media (such as the writing prompts, test items, or reading passages), or allowing media to observe a secure test administration. Adult or student improperly removing secure testing materials such as test items, stimuli, reading passages, writing prompts, or scratch paper from the testing environment.
