3 Japan’s Deming Award Deming’s Prize is one of the highest awards given for TQM initiatives. The JUSE established it in 1950 in honour of W.Edwards Deming ( ). His message that improved quality would reduce expenses & improve productivity helped Japanese companies build a strong foundation based on quality. The Deming prize was originally designed to reward Japanese companies for major advances in quality improvement.

The Deming Prize for INDIVIDUALS For individuals or groups This award is given to those who have made outstanding contributions to the study of TQM or outstanding contribution to the study of statistical methods used for TQM Or Outstanding contribution to the dissemination of TQM The Deming Application Prize For organizations or divisions of organization that manage their business autonomously. Organizations or divisions of organization that achieved a distinct improvement in performance through the application of TQM in a designated year The Quality Control Award for Operations Business Units For Operations business unit of an organization. Operations business unit of an organization that achieved a distinct improvement in performance through the application of Quality Management or control in a designated year

The Deming’s Application Prizes are awarded to private or public organization. Theses organizations are subdivided into : Small enterprises Divisions of large corporations & Overseas company.

9 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award(MBNAQ)
MBNQA is given by the United States National Institute of Standards & Technology. This award is given through the action of the National Productivity Advisory committee & American Society for Quality. (ASQ) It was established by the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality improvement Act of 1987. The award was established to recognize US companies that excelled in the achievement & management of quality. This award is America’s highest honour for innovation & performance excellence. The programme recognizes quality service in The manufacturing, service & small business & healthcare , education & non- profit & was inspired by the ides of TQM.

11 Criteria for Performance Excellence
Organizational profile : It deals with all the details the way the organization works. It is divided into 2 parts: 1) Organizational Description & 2) Organizational Challenges. This includes organizational environment , key working relationships & strategic challenges. The organization must give details about products & services it provides, its vision ,mission, values & its employee profile. The type of equipments & technology used in various process & details of communication mechanism used, its supply chain & statutory & regulatory requirements by which it is governed. The organization must highlight the steps taken by it to improve the key process relating to creation of new products & services.
