FUEL BY: ARIYEL AND BRADLEY

DIFFERENT TYPES OF TRADITIONAL FUEL Fuel is made from the refining of crude oil. Some of these products include; Gasoline Diesel Fuel Heating oil Jet fuel Kerosene And Residual Fuel Oil

GASOLINE Because crude oil has hydrocarbons, refineries break them down into different products. One of these products is Gasoline. On average in 2012, households spent $2,912 annually on gasoline. That’s a whole four percent of pre-taxed income! This is the highest estimated percentage of income spent per household in nearly thirty years!

DANGERS OF USING GASOLINE Gasoline is even more dangerous than Dynamite. One reason is, Dynamite needs a relatively high temperature to set it off, and isn’t the easiest to get. Gasoline, however, needs a relatively low temperature to ignite it, and not only the liquid gas itself is flammable, the vapors are too. The vapors run invisibly in the way a liquid does when it’s spilled, and if your car is on the “On” position, the fan that is blowing to produce AC or heat is constantly creating sparks. Any type of hot surface can set Gasoline on fire. Another thing that makes Gas so dangerous is its easy availability. Basically anybody can go and fill a gas can up. And, the more obvious answers are how expensive it is, and how we will eventually run out of it. Oil is made over millions of years. We can’t keep using it.

DANGERS OF GASOLINE:

JET FUEL Jet Fuel is another byproduct of the refining of Crude Oil. It is used to power Jets, Airplanes, and large Helicopters. Delta spend twelve billion dollars last year on jet fuel, that’s about one hundred dollars per minute flying commercial airliners!

KEROSENE Kerosene is the third byproduct of oil refining we will talk about. Kerosene is mainly used for the purposes of heating and as a cleaning solvent World consumption of kerosene is about 1.2 million barrels per day, or 66 million gallons per day. That’s about 438 million barrels per year, or over 24 billion gallons!

BIOFUEL Corn Ethanol is the type of biofuel that we will be discussing. While there are some pros, there are cons as well. For the pros, corn is renewable, and grows relatively quickly. However, for the cons, we use too much. The earth uses so much fuel daily, it’s incomprehensible. In order for us to grow enough, we’d ruin the soil all over the world.
