2 blueEnergy would like to provide 10 highly qualified, but financially challenged people the opportunity to learn about sustainable development hands on. This once in a lifetime experience for this group of select 10 can be provided for $45,000.

9 What is the Service Learning Program Interested in sustainable energy and sustainable development? Curious about real-world applications for the information you’re learning in school or your desk job? Join blueEnergy’s Service Learning Program in Nicaragua! blueEnergy’s Service Learning Program is a unique opportunity to apply classroom and theoretical work knowledge to real-world situations. Have the experience of a lifetime while participating in blueEnergy’s renewable energy and sustainable development work on the Caribbean Coast of Nicaragua. blueEnergy is a non-profit organization that connects isolated communities to power, helping them transition from a reliance on relief to starting their own small businesses. We are currently focused on the Caribbean Coast of Nicaragua, where only 25% of the population has access to electricity. Utilizing a community-based project design model, blueEnergy works directly with its beneficiaries to create appropriate solutions. Volunteer with blueEnergy and experience this development model hands-on. Examples of previous volunteering opportunities (specific opportunities will vary): - Water Filter Project - Wind-Solar Hybrid Energy Design - Accounting, Microfinance Consulting

10 What Service Learning Inters Can Do and Learn Through its own programs and those of its partners, blueEnergy can provide experiences in: wind and solar energy energy efficiency biomass and biofuels water purification and distribution productive uses of energy and clean water community development micro-finance indigenous cultures and rights sustainable agriculture communications computer and information technology for rural communities research and advocacy on renewable energy policy eco-tourism development awareness of sustainability/green issues curriculum and materials development for renewable energy training program Through the blueEnergy experience, interns and volunteers can learn about: different world views teamwork in a multi-cultural context deep, pro-active listening empathy different development models and frameworks government’s role in development engainge with communities to understand their value systems and priorities developing solutions to identified needs developing plans to implement solutions project management renewable energy, water and communication technology

12 Scholarships for Diversity and Equal Opportunity blueEnergy believes that everyone should have an equal opportunity for learning and personal growth. Program Costs: Fees: $2,200 for 2 weeks + $500 for each additional week Travel to program location (Nicaragua) Personal expenses Full scholarship value for 1 month internship estimated at $4,500 10 scholarships for 2010 - 2011 = $45,000
