3 Introduction I began this program in spring of 2009. Over the course of the two years, I have taken one or two courses per semester and look forward to completing this degree in May of 2011. Upon completion, I plan to continue teaching at the middle school level. I currently teach middle school special education language arts and reading in Cobb County Georgia. I have been employed by the county since 1998, teaching a variety of subjects to special education students. Prior to working in Cobb County, I taught at both the high school level and the elementary school level. My goals are to continue teaching and use what I have learned to incorporate more technology into my instructional plans. I also plan to take on more leadership roles as well as participating and sharing ideas for improvements at my school community. I will use the knowledge that I have gained to collaborate more effectively with colleagues and stakeholders and work to meet the needs of diverse students and special needs students. This portfolio represents a culmination of two and a half years of work. 5 Resume I have been a teacher for over 20 years. My career started as a high school teacher for students with learning disabilities in Opelika, AL. I am currently a 7 th grade language arts teacher for Cobb County Schools. I have a Bachelor’s degree from University of West Florida, and a Master’s degree from the University of West Georgia. Both of these degrees were in special education. 17 Final Reflections Link to Final Reflections O ver the course of the two years that I have pursued this degree, I have been challenged on many different levels. Upon starting this degree, I felt that I was below standards in my ability to use new and innovative technology effectively. I chose to stick to the ways I already knew and tried to avoid changing my habits. My decision to immerse myself in the cutting edge of technology was scary and intimidating. My family thought it was actually humorous that I would consider a degree in technology, because I would always ask for help with anything related to technology. Upon completion of this program, I am proud to say that several co- workers actually come to me for technology advice. Conceptual Framework Reflection: Learning to use a web cam was new for me. It made me realize that there are many ways educators can use this tool of technology to enhance instruction. f. Artifact: Curriculum Web Instructional WebsiteCurriculum Web Instructional Website Course: MEDT 7467 Semester: Summer 2010 NETS Reflection: This was an all encompassing assignment that brought together many skills and instructional design principles. Many learning strategies were implemented in this project. Conceptual Framework Reflection: The transformational and systemic change occurred in my approach to teaching after completion of this assignment. I now see the web as a tool just as important to teaching as the overhead projector was years ago.

Conceptual Framework Reflection: The presentation of the Airliner Wireless Slate was evidence of advanced knowledge in the content area of technology for educational purposes. e. It’s focus was on the relationship between professional development and teachers’ use of technology. b. Artifact: Technology InterviewTechnology Interview Course: MEDT 8461 Semester: Spring 2009 NETS Reflection: This interview that I conducted with our technology specialist included questions about what makes technology successful and how technology affects the learning process. Conceptual Framework Reflection: This interview gave me information needed to improve my knowledge of technology integration in the educational setting. Use technology to communicate and collaborate with peers, parents, and the larger community in order to nurture student learning. Adaptive: The candidate should be able to demonstrate flexibility and strategic planning appropriate to a wide variety of learners for effective transformational systemic change. Artifact: EtherPad PowerPointEtherPad PowerPoint Course: MEDT 7462 Semester: Spring 2010 NETS Reflection: EtherPad is a useful tool for collaborating on a document in real time between two or more parties with changes and edits being shown in distinct colors. The tool has a chat feature which allows for communication during the editing process. The PowerPoint was given during the class and the technology has become a part of my daily life since then. The EtherPad I have used can be found at http://typewith.me. Conceptual Framework Reflection: I used this tool to communicate and collaborate with both peers and students. I have used the tool to edit papers with at-home students as well as work with my peers on joint projects. This is one of those delightful tools that really connects people in the process of collaboration and is a valuable asset to any teacher of language arts.

This staff development was evaluated for effectiveness by this evaluation plan. Conceptual Framework Reflection: Leading a group of young learners requires flexibility and clear instructions.
