3 Thinking Skills at Chantry Classroom Climate and morning rituals Smile – for each child as they arrive Music – uplifting and bright then calm, same each day Individual time – have a ‘chat’, get to know your pupils Thinking Challenge – fun and open ended, a gentle brain warmer What questions would you like to ask a spoon?

4 Thinking Skills at Chantry This is what the children said… Do you prefer coffee or tea? Do you get concussion when we drop you on the kitchen floor? Are you secretly a dentist, checking our teeth? Why did you run away with the dish? How can you stand by and watch while the knife stabs and cuts? Do you get along with the eggs you race with? How do you get along with everybody else in the cutlery drawer? How does it feel to be a cereal killer?

Comprehension: classify, describe, discuss, explain, express, identify, indicate, locate, recognise, report, restate, review, select, translate, Application: apply, choose, demonstrate, dramatise, employ, illustrate, interpret, operate, practice, schedule, sketch, solve, use, write. Analysis: analyse, appraise, calculate, categorise, compare, contrast, criticise, differentiate, discriminate, distinguish, examine, experiment, question, test. Synthesis: arrange, assemble, collect, compose, construct, create, design, develop, formulate, manage, organise, plan, prepare, propose, set up, write. 9 Thinking Skills at Chantry De Bono’s 6 Thinking Hats The Blue Hat is used to manage the thinking process. It's the control mechanism that ensures the Six Thinking Hats guidelines are observed. The Red Hat signifies feelings, hunches and intuition. When using this hat you can express emotions and feelings and share fears, likes, dislikes, loves, and hates. The White Hat calls for information known or needed. "The facts, just the facts." The Black Hat is judgment - the devil's advocate or why something may not work. Spot the difficulties and dangers; where things might go wrong. Probably the most powerful and useful of the Hats but a problem if overused. The Yellow Hat symbolises brightness and optimism. Under this hat you explore the positives and probe for value and benefit The Green Hat focuses on creativity; the possibilities, alternatives, and new ideas. 11 Thinking Skills at Chantry Ore Adebola is a Newly Qualified Teacher who has been with us at Chantry since September. Ore has a Year 6 class with 33% SEN including two statemented pupils.
